The HAMB that is...
I just saw an ad for NEXT week's RIDES on TLC, and it looks like they are going to be showing this year's Viva Las Vegas show. The only specific vehicle I recognized on the ad was El Polacko's Truck. Should be an interesting show.

Oh, and it doesn't seem like Jason Priestly is the host anymore.

Cool. Could this mean that I can weez off of elPolacko's gig some more and my yellow heap will make an appearance on TV as an extra? It pays to park next to the right people http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif.

Looks like I'll have to get together with a freind who actually has cable TV and get a look at that show. What night and time is it on next week?

Yeah part geek, I dig it. I even get Mikes tag line. The song "Benson Arizona" is now running through my mind, thank man.

El P, Show applications? Shit yeah, if they have show applications then fill them out. You wouldn't be able to keep your front ends on the shelves if EVERYONE in the world saw you on TV. Shit, I have friends that don't care at all about motorcycles that watch American Chopper and actually think the bikes are cool, just because TV said so. Think of how many people would see you talking on the show and realize you know your stuff. Your phone would be ringing off the hook the next day.

Did you see the commercial they said its a show on ratt rods. Dose that make the fad officialy over it sounded like jason priestly on the commercial but not on the show. Its on tueday nights.

Deyomatic

I didn't hear the commercial, I was watching this week's Drifting episode with my neighbor, who knew most of those guys on the show from the Rally racing that he does. I was kind of sitting there wondering why nobody I know is ever on TV and the commercial comes on. It was so short that he was in mid sentence about something when El P's truck was shown so I never heard any Rat Rods info.

I'm sure the show will piss us all off, but I'm going to tape it and mute it if necessary. The only reason they call them all rat rods is because they don't know any better. I have people say that all the time about my Ford, but that might be because it IS ratty!

Then rent the next one and you'll probably like that one.

does everybody understand that the malfunctioning computer on the discovery called " HAL" , is actually the initials" I B M " one letter forward from " HAL" . . . IBM was the computer system used to do the special effects & all that stuff on that movie . . . chop chop . . . .

Mike, this is what IMDB says about it since you brought it up....but I'm afraid we're in danger of wandering too far from the topic here...

"Incrementing each letter of "HAL" gives you "IBM". Arthur C. Clarke (co-screenwriter) claimed this was unintentional, and if he had noticed it before it was too late, he would have changed it. HAL stands for Heuristic ALgorithmic Computer."

But before that it says....

"HAL sings "A Bicycle Built for Two" ("Daisy") as he is shut down; this was the first song ever "sung" by a computer, a IBM 7094 computer at Bell Labs in 1961. Furthermore, the lyrics include the phrase "I'm half crazy".

It's from "2001: A Space Odyssey." Stanley Kubrick's take on the Arthur C. Clark novel of the same name.
It is a line from the end of the film, when the main character (Dave Bowman) finds out for himself the secret behind a discovery that his ship and now dead crewmates were going to investigate.

I just thought it was a neat one liner that fit, since next week's "Rides" will more or less be a "video scrapbook" of about 40% of the rides on the HAMB.

There are like 600 people trying to start a church to Spongbob.

I enjoyed the original movie (seen it way too many times, it was one of the test DVDs that we used at the computer store that I owned) and I enjoyed the Mel Brooks spoof... all the apes jerkin off into the sunset. It was beautiful.
