Howdy,
I'm going to be in Austin TX either the weekend of Aug 14 or Aug 21. Probably can't make it all the way to the HAMB drags http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif. Are there any events worth going to on either weekend, somewhere closer to Austin? Is there a listing of 'Texas hot rod events' somewhere?
Thanks

I don't know about car shows but for music at night.Find out where GRADY and HONKY are playing if your in Austin. Two great bands. Grady has none other than Chris Layton on drums (Stevie Ray Vaughan) and Canada's own Gordie Johnson(Big Sugar). If you want some real good honky tonk country look for DALE WATSON. Check out the Continental Club on S. Congress too.I reafy to visit Austin right now.

Good call! Been a Big Sugar fan for a long time (RIP). Was hoping to check out the Continental Club, now I have to (on the company's tab http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif). Cheers.
Anyone know of car-related stuff on either weekend? Anywhere in Texas?

The 13th and 14th is the Tribute to the King show at the Continental. Elvis fan or not, this is a must see if you are in Austin.

buzzard beat me to it.
Don't know of any strictly car events on those weekends.
The 13 and 14th is the big Elvis tribute weekend at the Continental club. There will be plenty of cars and bikes out front of the club both nights.
San Antonio (80 miles south) has a few cruise nights, Maybe the Barrons could get ya info on.
Then there are the stock cars races at Thunder Hill in Kyle (15 miles south) on Sat nights.
Best bet is just hang on South Congress, grab a bite at the Texas Music Cafe, grab a beer in the beer garden at the San Jose, go to one of the four E shows at the Continental, dig the cars and bikes rolling up to the club.
