Can't seem to get my web site to pop up on Google and Yahoo when doing a search. Anyone know what I have to do to make it happen?

a few years ago you needed meta tags or something like that don't know if thats true for today or not
just put the words nude, sex or anything porn related in there someplace its bound to show up! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif seems no matter what I look for some sort of porn site always sneaks in there, I like bare hooters as much or more than the next guy but sometimes I am legitimately looking for stuff non porn related, matter of fact I haven't looked up a porn site since about a week after we got the internet a few years ago, they just seem to pop up out of nowhere http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

you can submit your url to them...

this is one of the most enigmatic parts of building a website... there is no end-all way of getting inclusion effectively. ...and the process is slow at best and is gonna require some homework. start here:
web page promotion resource (http://www.promotion101.com/)
read ALL of it carefully and you should make some good headway. NOTE: it's somewhat outdated and you should look for other resource. search for "website promotion how to" on google. DO NOT (repeat) DO NOT pay anyone for website promotion services - you will get ripped off no matter what anyone says.
the sites that 41ChevyTrucker posted are great. submit your site AFTER you've improved and updated your meta tags. ...but be warned, it may be WEEKS or MONTHS before you get included in the directories.
also, make sure you have some sort of stats running on your site or are evaluating your access logs. by viewing this info, you can see if your traffic is increasing. try to get "referrer" info if you can. this is most valuable as it tells you where your traffic is coming from. also, pay no attention to "hits" - pay CLOSE attention to "unique visitors" instead.

Yahoo is a simple directory service, so you have to submit your site to them.
Google operates on a page rank basis, in which they use complex algorithms to compute where your site turns up when you type in certain keywords. The quickest, though not necessarily easiest, way to get your site up there fast is to get lots of links to your site using certain phrases. Some folks have figured out how to use this for their own purposes and created a sort of game called "google bombing."
basically, it's tough. the best way to get noticed is to just do your thing, write clean, compliant, accessible code, and build a quality site. you'll get noticed eventually.

I absolutely agree. It will probably take a month or two but it'll show. Just do your thing. If you can get other sites to link to yours and vice versa. Then when google's spiders crawl through the web it'll rank it higher.
