check this thing out. it rules. its kevin's roadster from long beach. the motor is the most wicked sounding flathead i've ever heard. runs pretty damn strong too, he was squealing the tires every chance he got! the car is put together really awesome, it should be in a museum or something. i havent been impressed by a car this much in a long time. just thought i'd share. kevin and his dad are pretty damn cool too! http://photo.starblvd.net/rickyracer1962/3-1-3.jpg

Ricky is not kidding, I saw this car and was blown away, it is just beautiful. If you ever see it at a show take a good look at it up close as it is just really well put together and sits right. Kevin sorry I did not talk with you at the Rattle can as I remember I talked with you and your dad last year at Famoso. You guys did a GREAT job on the car.

I love those wheels! What kind are they and what made that spider visual effect? I have always thought that a unique set of wheels that look right can really make a car, and think those are awesome. Any more info on those? Any other close-up pics of them? Thanks.

Cool wheels,
But I don't know about finding the brakes/adapters
to make 'em fit...

The wheels are '37 Ford Deluxe. The hubcaps are stainless and completly cover the centers. The standards and the later wide-five hubcaps don't extend over the edges of the wheels.
The front brake drums are a little tough to find. In order to run wide fives with juice brakes, you have to run '39 drums, earlier drums have the wrong spacing.

That`s a realy nice car Keven,I would`nt change a thing. That dash is neat and looks right at home there, whats it out of?How`d you get so much rake on your windshield without fouling on the scuttle...it sure adds an aggresive look to the car.I love it.

Reefer, I just laid the windshield back as far as I could go without having a gap at the bottom between the frame and cowl... Is that what you meant?

Man, now that thing is a good example of a classic rod. Not ratty at all...just simple, clean, and well built.
Someday if I can get sleds out of my system I'd love to build something like it...but channeled & in semi-gloss black w/ a green nailhead and wheels. So many red wheeled rods out there these days. Still an amazing car though.

In order to run wide fives with juice brakes, you have to run '39 drums, earlier drums have the wrong spacing. That's a great looking car- a perfect example of traditional. Just wondering what you meant about '39 drum's spacing w/juice brakes. The Ford green bible shows the same part # for '37 thru '39 front drums. Am I missing something? Sorry if this is taking the thread off on a tangent. Oh yeah, what are those heads? Thanks, RE

Oops. I'm better at lurking than posting. That quote was supposed to end with "earlier drums have the wrong spacing". My post starts at "That's a great looking car..." Sorry.

re49- All I know about the drums is- I had a complete set of 37's, the back fit just fine with the juice brakes but the front 37 drums and hubs wouldn't work...the bearing spacing was incorrect. A buddy told me I had to find 39's. I hunted around and found a set and they work. Beats me, I also read that the 37-39 were the same? The heads are highly machined and modified Edelbrocks.
Bruce Lancaster

My guess here is that the '37's that didn't fit were actually '36. '32-36 hubs had wider spacing between thw two wheel bearings, hence the need for a spacer to use late drums on those cars. '37-48 all have same bearing spacing. I have heard that '36 drums can be used with hydraulics if '36 spindles are used. Don't know from personal experience.

I donno Bruce, I got the whole banana from a guy with a '37 woody- he was havin a friend of mine update his mechanical brakes with 40-48 hydraulics. I got all the brakes and wheels.
Bruce, you could be right, but the guy we got the wheels and brakes/drums took them off of his 37 woody and said they were original. When they wouldn't work on the front,we checked with a Hot Rod shop owner friend of ours, and he said we had to use 39 fronts to fit the spendels,we did and it worked?????--TV/KV

tell us about the induction.
Randy, sorry to jump Kevs car but I know he's busy and I did help build it. The carbs are 97's with adjustable jets, the fuel distrabution block is fabricated from a solid block of alum.,it mounts two glass filter bowels going to the carbs. The 3/8" SS fuel line runs down the firewall and to the back of the car to an electric pump and filter and on to the tank.Other than that it's just how it's laid out. I hope that was what you were asking for.--TV http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif I forgot to tell you that the manafold has the carbs on mounted backwards,This is a Hexagone manafold and they were made originally for Indy Fords, and it really seems to work good.
The dash is really NEAT, I just got excited.....
seems like along time since I seen 16" wheels on a HOT ROD.....
I left a LOAD in that GAS STATION ricky...

Ouch.....reminds me of Bonneville 01'. Vern Tardel lost his fan into the radiator and he was pinching off the coils with needle nose plyers and a couple of guys said that they would tow him home from Wendover. He told them "No thanks, he would rather run it without a fan."

but the post won out in the end...
But it just goes to show everyone into cars,
how lucky the cars that drive there and make it are,
(kinda no matter how authentic they are even)
and the next time your super-stoked cause it did.

You know this water pump thing must be the Vaughan curse. A few years back Hotrodvon and I were on our way to Paso, I was in my Banger powered 5-W 32 and he was in his 40ford coupe, we both had our wives and we were letting her rip running bout 70 just outside of San Lewis My banger let loose with a loud boom and threw coolent everywhere. The fan lost a blade and broke the pump in half and it all went through the radiator and cut a slice in my driver side front fender. Needless to say the coupe didn't make it to Paso, I had to store it. But we made it and still had a good time. So I'm sure Hotrodvon had a flash back when it happend to him.--TV http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif
