Is the 42-47 standard pickup sheetmetal from the cowl of the cab to the back (including the bed and rear fenders) the same as the 39-41?

Doing some research and have always thought this was true, no?

BTW, the '64 is getting more and more nekkid all the time. I'll post pics soon...

Just building a 40 with a 46 cab and box. The 42 and later had the gas tank under the seat and the filler on the right cab side and the 40-1 has the tank under the rear of the bed with the filler in the left rear fender.
The later boxes......42-47 are 3 inches wider (49 inches) but affords you to run wider wheels/tires under the fenders and the fenders are a bit different where they mate up to the running boards but I believe can be modified to fit. I really don't know about the running boards as mine are 40.
Hopes this helps ya!

Jeem, may also note that the chassis is different 41/42 and newer, 39-41 truck half tons use the same running chassis as a passenger car, then was changed over to twin leafs upfront. Also I believe the bed on on 42-up is 2" wider, making the rear fenders narrower.

Yep! And the later models.....2 to 7 run an open drive banjo rearend.

Thanks Guys, that helps a bunch.
One answer leads to another question though; If the '42-7 bed is wider (and the fender narrower), than I wonder (with some mount modification) if you could run wider '40-'41 fenders on your '42-7 bed?! Then again, mild inner fenders or "tubs" would be the best option.

Thanks again.

somebody was just tellin me the other day they had the wider bed with the wider fenders on a truck they once owned. stands to reason it must fit then.

I think (THINK) that the fenders are the same width but because the bed is wider it offers room for a deeper or offset (reversed) wheel and still keep the tire under the fender. The leading edge of the fenders where they mount to the running boards are different. I have 40 running boards so don't know for sure but I think the 42-7 fender runs outside of the running board a bit but is all formed into the leading edge where the 40/1 would just run straight back from the board. I don't have anything here to compare to and it's been bout 40 years since I last played with a 40. Once again.........hope this helps.

About the only snag is the way it all comes together at the running board. But with a little work the 40-41 front end will fit on the 42-47 pickup. The front axle might not be so accomodating to the narrower fenders, but that's an easy fix.
