Ive been busy this weekend, playing with my newest project... the 40 willys. I picked this up Thursday out of a woods where it has been sitting for at least 40 years. It is a sedan that the back was cut off of to make a truck.. It had been a home for critters and I saw several mice in it a few weeks ago when I first found it. We cut down a few trees, and drug it out of the woods with a skid steer and loaded it on the trailer with a $39.00 Harbor freight power winch and a spray bottle of DAWN dish soap, ( to make it slide, because it didnt roll, and the tires were totally shot.) Here is the pic of it upon arrival in Appleton, after its long 120 mile journey...... LUKE

The MICE made it with the car and were crawling all over it in my driveway, It was super funny, they must have been scared to death, going 90 MPH for over 120 miles.... Here is the front end......

Friday after work, I started on the thing, I had to make it roll to get it off the trailer. I had to heat all the lug nuts up with the torch, and unstick all the brake shoes. I got all the wheels to turn, and bolted on some better tires, and unloaded it. Then I gave it a bath with the pressure washer, cut out all the rotten floors, threw away what was left of the seat, removed all the remaining glass, and sprayed it down with PB blaster. Today, I removed the ugly aftermarket headloghts, One of the buckets was COMPLETELY filled with mud, and the other headlight bucket was a nest thet had 5 dead baby mice in it. after more pressure washing, I dechromed the hood, and removed the garnish mouldings, and anything else that would have collected leaves and mud. after another bath, I started grinding on the front end and removing the scale. the sheet metal thats there is pretty solid, In a few more days it'll be clean enough to bring in the shop and really go to town..... LUKESTER,looks better already, should make a cool project.Whats your plans for the missing rear half? The soap trick is similar to one I learned while in the towing business. When loading or unloading a car with locked wheels,in park, wrecked or damaged, ect. I would always carry a can of spray silicon or spam cooking spray will also work, spray the floor of the bed of the truck and the tires--WHA-LA the car slides right on or off the truck, made loading and unloading a snap.Keep up the good work, looks like another rare old car has been saved.

I wanna see a shot of the bed that they put on it. How was the craftsmanship? Cool, or did they butcher it up?

Nevermind. Went back and looked again... no bed to see. What bed are you gonna use on it? How does the back end of the "cab" look?

there is no sheet metal behind the door jambs ..... It had plywood at one time... BUT I have already started on the hammerforms for the cab corners and a rear window surround to turn it into a truck. there is a real tough bodyline that will have to be hammerformed, but the rest should be fairly easy..... Its so neat to see those "basket case, who'd ever want it, send it to the crusher" cars back at a home who want to love it again.

Keep pressing on!!!

Lukester amazes me. Partly because he is a RULER and partly because he just flat-out dives into a project and doesn't come up for air until the damn thing is almost finished.

Making forward progress everyday goes a long way towards getting a car built.

Guys like Lukester inspire me.
