Well as Tman said in his cost of parts post last week the Dollars can add up to more than you have. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
That is exactly my situation this month.
Our local muffler shops wanted $350 for a 2" with glass packs system-and Trust me- I have other places I need that cash!
I had to have some type of exhaust so I looked around my parts piles and came up with this Idea,
NOW SOME WOULD NOT EVEN CONSIDER.....this crappy system at all -But I envy you for holding out for the best![hope it comes while you are living] http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif
I knew I had stock exhaust manifolds to work with as my buddy deal of free flanges proved to be for an OLDS motor-so there went Headers out the fuckin window!
Heres what I made it out of.......

3"stainless pipe[an old set of "Luverne"brand pipe running boards for a 4x4][that were scratched and thrown away by a local body shop]=FREE

a "Stanley BRAND" tractor muffler- new from the Farm and Home/&'Rod store... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gifpart#CA-3=$21 DOLLARS

FEW cut off wheels and welding costs=$2.00
1 Rattlecan of satin black so welds wont rust=$1.99

two exhaust hangers=$4.99

two USED three bolt flanges and a pair- USED stubs of 2" pipes=FREE

I swaged[sp?] the 3"OD down at the manifolds end /welded a short length of belled 2" exhaust tube there to hold the three bolt flange....
Then Cut the tractor muffler into equal halves at 8"length-[of baffles] for each side=2-1/4"I.D.....
WELDED THAT HALF MUFFLER IN THE MIDDLE... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
used the 90 degree bends to create the "turn ups" at motor and "turn downs" at rear axle .
also go my front shocks mounted to radius rods....

I haven't done any shopping at the local muffler shop dumpster for years, might have to take a trip down there for my own exhaust http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

under rear axle- turnout exits...should be just enough baffling for decent backpressure and to knock to the noise level down some...... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif
also here is the dodge minivan tranny cooler[bent to conform to frame/floor] of the roadster....

Next thing you know you'll be installing air conditioning in that roadster.... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif!!!

WHY... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif??? All that fancy stuff adds weight and will slow you down at the HAMB Drags http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif!

Think you'll make it....??? Maybe if you quit accesserising that "Gold Chainer" Jewel!!! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
