hi all i just scored me a nice rochester 4 jet but cant work out how the choke works. It has a digeridoo at the sidewith a spade connector for a wire. Now should the choke initially be off for startup then close on ignition?and what wire should go to the choke and from where?Help as i can't seem to find an info on the net............Marq

If it has a heating element inside the housing, the choke should be closed, until the ignition is on. then it heats up the choke coil, and opens it,at which time the engine should be warm enough to run with no choke. One spade terminal goes to the + side of the coil, and the other to ground. Glenn

yup,

for initial setting, with the engine cold loosen the three screws holding the bakelight cover and turn it till the butterfly just closes.

drive the car and adjust it so that the choke opens when you want it to.

more tension on the coil opens later and visa verse

it only has one terminal in the middle of the bakelite bit...........Marq

that'd be for the hot wire, pos. if neg. ground..

hot when ignition hot.

faffing?

when they function as designed they are far superior to the manual type.

but yes you should be able to rig a cable up.

Have ran the same carb on a couple of vettes. Had a problem with one where the choke would not open. The single wire without a ground was not working properly, solved this problem by running a ground from a carb screw to the firewall ground.
