Who was it that had the tire post, radials that looked like bias plys? It was a commercial 16" tire I think. Anyone remember that? They were a blackwall tire with a great squared off look to em.

Rashy, no.
The tires weren't a specialty type of a tire. It was a light truck tire...possibly an import????

Hey Zonk, here's some of the info you had on the pther post.
Now, one thing I wanted to ask is what is the overall width of the tire?

Quote:
"Since I managed to scatter all the relevant info in various responses, here's the complete setup:

Rear
16x6 steel wheels
215/85R16 Dunlop Radial Rover AT tires
Approx. 30.4" diameter

Front
15x5 steel wheels
165R15 Dayton Metric Radial tires
Approx. 25.4" diameter (Dayton catalog states 24.5", but is incorrect)

As I mentioned before, I actually like the look of some of the older Michelin 165R15 tires better--they're a little skinner and some are also a bit taller--but they're much more expensive and supposedly don't handle as well.

Thanks
Root

Root- You can find specs and ballpark pricing on a bunch of 215/85R16 tires here (http://www.tirerack.com/tires/Compare1.jsp?shipquote=N&compare=true&partNumber=& make=&model=&clarifier=&price=&width=215%2F&ratio= 85&diameter=16&sortCode=&speedRating=&qty=&stockMe ssage=&type=T&URL=&newCompare=true&prevprice=&load Rating=&promoShortText=&promoUrl=&promoLongText=&s idewall=&sidewallShown=&frontTire=&frontLeftTire=& rearTire=&rearLeftTire=&wantRHP=&RHPprice=&sumRati ng=&hasSpec=&hasWarranty=&hasComments=&hasTests=&h asSurveys=&perf=&pre=&specCode=&autoMake=&autoMode l=&autoYear=&autoModClar=&goWhere=%252Ftires%252FC ompare1.jsp&AddToUser=true&startIndex=10&sortValue =1&qty_185R6BZW965_=4&qty_185R626510_=4&qty_185R6R OVHLT_=4&qty_185R6LT5D_=4&qty_185R6STRADR4S_=4&qty _185R6STR4S2_=4&qty_185R6XPSR10_=4&qty_185R6788OBL 10_=4&qty_185SR6HT689RBL8_=4&qty_185R6GRTRK_=4), including the Dunlops. This size of tire is getting easier to find because of the popularity of SUVs--Pep Boys even carries this size under their store brand now. I went with the Rovers because they were available locally (Just Tires) and they had a better price/performance trade-off than most of the others I found.

Oh, and watch the speed ratings on these tires. Because they're intended for light trucks none of them are all that high performance, but some of the ones with the most traditional style treads also have the lowest speed ratings. Some are only rated to 87mph! The Rovers are rated "R" for 106mph--just enough for a healthy ticket.

A 215 section tire should be about 8.5 inches sidewall to sidewall. Tread width will vary by tire series and brand. It will also vary slightly depending on the rim width.

I was just wondering because I have a 235 70 R15 on there now and it has about 1/2" of clearance in the fender. It has more pooch than I want. The 215 might be about right.

Hey Zonk, if these prices are right...they are as cheap as bias plies.

Hey guys. I read that other post about our tires (HURST) and I wanted to clear a few things up. I race on them all the time and they hook up every bit as good as any DOT slick on the market. Also the ones we make for Speedway are only 7.5" wide and we don't ship them a whole lot so if you want them faster get them direct. Take care and we'll race em again in B.C. this weekend!
