Just wondering if ya can school me on what NOT to buy as far as a supercharger goes. This is for a future project and I know you can really get hosed on a blower if ya don't know what you are looking at. I am looking for a 6-71 in the raw finish, no polished bs. I see a ton that are "rebuilt" on egay etc. but how can you tell without tearing it down and checking the clearances yourself?

My boss and 2 other pals have done this in the last year. All I can say is buy it complete and all at once! Two of these guys used swapmeet blowers and spent a GRAND over what my pal Randy spent to order up a polished Weiand 8-71. BDS,Weiand,Hampton all do a nice job. Another pal deals with Kuhl and raves about his setup.

I am after the old Mooneyham look, magnesium case etc.
I have heard that you can spend twice as much converting one but I want the old 6-71 case and most of the aftermarket cases are all smooth an fancy.......

I know the look, tried to get Randy to do it. You can order AS CAST cases and parts, shipping seems quicker as well.

Root, do a search for Big Als Toybox. He does blowers.

Root - are you looking for one for racing, or the street? I've got a natural case BDS with about 10 runs on it, but it's a small bore. How much pressure are you looking for?

Don't the newer BDS blowers have a big, ugly non-nostalgic "BDS" logo cast in??? I know a lot of the new aftermarket blowers do not have the simple 3-rib pattern of the stock GMC cases, too. But I think there was one that did. Can't remember, maybe it was the Childs and Albert blower (I think made by the Blower Shop)?

I just decided to settle for a Littlefield.

I believe I read they were casting new cases now, with the logo on both sides.

I've got a Littlefield also for my under construction gasser.

Dyers Blowers is selling drive kits, and rebuilding blowers, but I don't think Gary is selling the blowers themselves. His prices were pretty good for belts and pullys on E-bay.

man i have been down this road before , and am planning on doing another in the near future

summit and the rest of em that sell as cast all have that "satin" look to them, i didnt like it , and like root i can't stand polished blowers

for mine i ended up painting the case in flat black, and then lightly sanding the ribs so they showed raw aluminum, i liked it ok, wasn't the "true" look i was after.

on my buddies we took a gmc polished case, and sandblasted the outside of the case, this gave it a liitle bit of a textured look, we then sprayed it with a paint that is supposed to look like cast metal, i believe they even had it to look like magnesium, the sumbitich looked spot on.

mine had the hampton logo on it and i didnt like that , the pure gmc case with no logo just had the right look, he ran it for 2 years that i know of and the paint never lifted, i sold mine after a year and it also still looked good.

Satin BDS - It's been coated to maintain the fresh look.

Mutt, I don't need a lot of boost but it's for a supersecret project in the near future. It will be a racing application.

What's the difference in gas blowers and alcohol blowers?

The clearances are tighter on a blower set up for alky.
