Does anyone have a picture of the alleged car built in honor of Johnny Cash's "One Piece At A Time" song? I tried searching for it via Google, but seemed to only get pages of lyrics as results.
Thanks,
don

The guy that built it, did so as a gift for Johnny. The story goes that Johnny wouldn't accept it for free. As it turned out, some civic organization that the man was involved in was trying to raise money for a youth center or something. Johnny and June decided to do a couple of shows to benefit the drive to repay him for his generosity. I'm not exactly sure if the details are correct, but that is the short version.

Oh, yeah, when he was building the car, the rumor is that he'd go into a junkyard and ask if they had any Cadillac parts. The question came back, "What model, What year?" And I guess he'd reply. "Anything you have."

was the car just slapped together, or was it "finessed" together so at least the flat spots and bludges werent side by side............err....that doesnt make sense, but you know what I mean.

I think it was a little of both. It appears to be very straight, for such a half assed endeavor. I've never seen in in person, so I can't say.

Thanks guys. My girlfriend gets a kick out of that song, so I wanted to find a picture of the car for her. She makes fun of most of the other music I like, so I try to capitalize on her moments of kindness. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I have another that I was awaiting permission from the owner, an acquaintance of mine who took this photo at the House of Cash in the late 70's/early 80's.

My wife and I saw it in May 92, at the House of Cash. I am sure it is still there.
I saw Johnny Cash play in San Jose in 1984. When he played One Peice at a Time, they set up a movie screen and projector and showed a film of he and June looking that car over. It was pretty cool.

Leadsled, I've heard a rumor that it is no longer at the House of Cash, it seems that it is in another museum somewhere.

[/ QUOTE ] It looked pretty decent when I saw it.If you just looked at one side, you might never know it wasn't a real production car.

Butt, I heard those tickets were free, first come first serve, so that they wouldn't be capitalizing. That may have changed in the last couple weeks, but that was the original intent.
