Cell phones suck...I'll never ever ever never own one...but I always used to run a CB (hillbilly car phone) in my cars...gonna stick one in the 49 to go with the vintage 8-track player, too!

Did you ever have you one of them there CB handles??? http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I did...it was "Sneaky Snake"...my buddy hung it on me after an old Tom T Hall song...cuz I used to arrive and leave silently at my buddies' places...drove him crazy...he'd turn to say something...and I'd be gone, or he'd look up and I'd be leaning over the other fender!

I just remembered that old handle this afternoon...

...don't know if I'll revive it or come up with another!

Gonna back on out now...be 10-10 on da side, Good Buddy!

Man, when I was in highschool, I knew some guys that were deep into CB's. They had those Postcards of their handles they would trade. "All 23's" and what not.

Then it got to be pretty big after "Convoy" and all that. I used 'em all the time on vacation trips and Rod Runs. Those were the daze! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Oh BTW, mine was "Ghetto Cruiser". No shit! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Used to do tornado sighting for the local ESDA. Stormwatcher was mine. I'd chase tornadoes when the chance would arrive when i was in high school. My old 66 Dart or a buddies Pinto were the chase cars of choice. The Pinto had a kicker (before that was a car audio term) that would slow the dang 2.0 a couple hundred RPMs when the mike was keyed. Itwould bleed across a few channels all over the county too. Haven't even thought of that stuff for.... decades.

When I drove OTR...."Johnny Fast" http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

The nickname was applied when, after not having been in a sprint car for 19 years, I won the first race back. Then I did a small favor for a friend's wife and she told the coffee shop gang how "sweet" I was. Been "Sweet Johnny Fast" ever since.

Man, you think too much! Member of the Channel Checkers of Dupage. Monitored channel 7. I was KEB 1042 Midnite Rambler, Deb was Morning Glory. Used to piss off people in 5 counties (300 watts will do that) Traded a '50 Chevy for a Browning, D-104, & a 5/8 wave antenna. Traded it all away for a '66 Honda Dream. Yeah, I had QSL cards, too.

In my CB days, I started as Jimbo. Got that hung on me by Friends?
Then i had a 59 Ford station wagon that had a distinctive squeak when the top window rubbed on the tailgate.
You could not hear it in the car, but the squeak could be heard over the radidieo. Hence, "The Chicken Coop Mobyle"

I did and still do, great for the "convoys" to rod runs. Don't use handles too much but like everything else it's "tootall". I tried using a cell phone last year when trucking to Maine to reach the lead guy. What a pain. Cb may be old tech but hell, it works.

When I was twelve or so, my family moved out to the bush, well Kalgoorlie anyway. Quite often we'd go fossicking for gold on the weekend so Dad thought it would be a good idea to get a CB in the car.

Of course, my brother and I just thought that was the best. We'd spend a bit of time just sitting in the car listening to shit and not really knowing what was going on (being all of twelve a lot of it was lost on us).

I think my handle was "Black Hawk" and from memory it was a brand of reticulation equipment we saw at a hardware one day. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Once we moved back to the big smoke, we setup the car CB in the house. That meant it had to be legal and all, so we got ourselves a "real" handle.

Whiskey Alpha Whiskey 3-1-2.

With the kick ass antenna on the roof we'd sometimes pick up people in Indonesia! Those were the days...

Hahaha! I was White Owl, and my brother was the Laredo Slim... we had a base and two mobiles... and some kind of giant tower on our roof that Mom hated that my dad got my brother for Christmas... I can't remember the name of it, but it was evidently something to be admired... hahaha

I still use all the lingo because I'm on one of those annoying Nextel walkie talkies all day at work (construction company)... just today I told someone I had to go 10-100 and would be right back (that means pee pee time for those not in the know) hahaha!

<font color="green"> Used to travel with my Grandfather to Montana during the summers and always went by Roadrunner. Don't know where the hell it came from but there it was. Was gonna revive it a couple of summers ago. Spent a couple hours getting my father's old CB hooked up in the Galaxie and finally found a good antenna only to realize the damn CB didn't work. Never got out to find a new one or even a good used one but I've thought about it every now and then. Maybe I should start hittin those yard sales.

Dad even had a '79 Dodge Power Wagon 3/4 ton, 4X4 with a built in CB. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif Fancy model, it was. Wish I still had a picture of that big green monster.

When I started on CB radios {1958}it was tightly controled by the FCC every thing was quite formal and every one used their lic no. mine was 6Q0617 and 6W4345. I had a Black faced Johnson with a modification to make 15 watts insted of the allowable 5.Had a ground plane at my parents house and a loaded 108 inch whip on my car. Then later in the early 70s Handle was vette which was funny because I drove a Dodge truck so during the chatter the cops listing in would look for a Corvette and not a Dodge truck.
