i just got ANOTHER chrysler square wheel ....yes it is an addiction. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif....and i know there was a discussion before on how to get rid of the stench that some old steering wheels give off.but i cant find it in the search......any ideas on how to fix this.....i am gonna paint it to match my car . so iwas thinking a good epoxy primer may get rid of it ???????? and no getting rid of the wheel is not and option. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif......thanks,donnie

Donnie, this could be an old wives tale, but I've heard that if they are mounted DIRECTLY to a GM column in a '49 Chevy Fleetline that you'll never smell that terrible smell again....I promise! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I just got one from Moon with the Vinyle/rubber cover and it filled my whole car with that stench. I used some concentrated simple green and then rinsed it with soap and water for a little while. It doesn't smell nearly as bad now. Good Luck!

Since you're used to and prefer the smell, rub your nuts all over it, then let bake in the sun in order for the cheese to really sink in!

you my friend truly suck. ha. i've been tryin to get one of those for the buick for a looonnnngggg time. i remember not bidding on a crazy square boat wheel because someone i know was the high bidder. oh wait that was you to. damn you ain't got that many cars do ya'. haha. ok i'll tell you what you look for me a mopar wheel i'll look for you vw swivels. i think you would probably be right on the fact that the smell would be gone after primer/paint on it. if not someone musta died holding onto and it's haunted and you'll have to just send it to me. but really help a brother out i've been looking for a long time and get sniped on ebay in the last 10 seconds every time. man that sucks. i know, iknow everything about ebay sucks. well other than the fact i just got the donor for my tube grille(much cheaper than having the ones i made chromed or rebuilding out of stainless) for $19 brand new. anyhow i want one of those so if you run up on one that your not gonna hoard let me know. i got the tbird guts now i gotta have the mopar wheel...ken....

the wife's V-dub wheel stunk like hell too. i sanded it down to get some of the knicks and deep scratchs out, then primed it with Urethane primer/surfacer. i'll eventually paint it after some more sanding but it does'nt stink anymore. all that decaying ancient plastic is sealed under a couple thick coats of quality primer.

Leave the windows down and when the neighboors cat pisses in your car you wont even notice the way the wheel smells anymore. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
