View Full Version : What caused my paint to wrinkle?

I sprayed my single cab a metalic green with some old Acme Enamal, on top of a lacqure primer-surfacer. It was uncatalized. About 2-3 weeks afterwards, the paint on the roof wrinkled. Only the roof, the rest of the green looks fine. It starts about 6" above the drip rail, so it's not the whole roof. If it was the whole thing, I'd think it was some sort of reaction in the paint, or between the different products, but what caused just the roof to wrinkle? Thanks.

Paint applied too thick ?

It dries from the outside in,and will shrink as it dries.
1-Shot will do this if it's put on REAL thick.

Lacquer based primer never stops shrinking. That may very well be what happened.

It's happened to me when I tried to rush something, and laid the paint on real heavy real quick... the solvents prolly lifted up the primer (laquer primer isn't all that tough). Especially with ***ahem*** cheap paint... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Thank goodness it was only a bike frame. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif And a Huffy at that.
