View Full Version : Can anybody help me I.D. a carb?

A guy at work brought in a couple of old carbs the other day. He wants to know how old they are and what they may be off of. I trold him I knew just the folks to ask, so here I am.

First one is a Ford version of a Stromberg 94. Says model 91-99 on one side, Ford script on the other, with a small "F" just to the left of the logo. No other obvious markings. Any idea on age?

The second one is an old Stromberg (updraft?). On one side it says OE-1, on the top it says "Stromberg" and has patent dates starting May 27,13 - Jan. 4,16 and going up to Jan. 31,22. It lists models O, OC, OI, OS, L, LB, M, and MB. It is shaped like an upside down "T" with the bowl at one end and the choke-intake at the other with the throttle plate at the top. Weird looking thing. Any thoughts on age and what it might be off?

The second on sounds like an old tractor carb. Just a guess of course.

On the first one you mean Holley 94. I have one that came off of my 55 Fairlane with the following Model number on the ID tag.
B5A-9510-P
It also says 1 1/16 on it.

That 91-99 is a ninety-four style carb. Should have the "91-99" cast into one side of the bowl and "Ford" in script letters on the other side. Fits lots of old flatheads, but came on 1939-41 passenger cars and trucks.

And the letter F at the base of the pump housing means that this particular carb was made by Ford and not by Holley, which made the great majority of them. I think Ford made maybe 10% of the 94's it used to keep a plant open in case of a strike or disaster at Holley.

I meant Holley 94, don't know why I wrote Stromberg.

Oh well.

Thanks for the info guys. I knew this would be the place to find out. The kid who owns the carbs dug 'em out of a garage on his property. The 94 looks like you could bolt it on an go! The stromberg, on the other hand, looks like it would make a better planter at this point.
