Guys,
53 year old street rodder. Built my share of cars, made all of the mistakes, do not really want all the aluminum on my car. Wife wiped out my cars 10 years ago so now I'm starting over. I was the NSRA South Carolina safety rep for a few years and decided NSRA is pretty much a rip off, is more concerned with making money that what street rodders really do. I guess I just got tired of the aloof attitude of NSRA owners and operators. I've recently purchased a 36 dodge pickup truck from a friend that bought it in 1969 and has worked on it quite a bit and just got too many projects. See the photo attached. All the structural work is finished on the truck. Now I have it apart, sand blasted and next week the frame will go to the powder coaters with all the suspension parts. Got a crate motor coming and now I"m off to the junk yard to find "Stuff" I want to probably just primer the truck or maybe even put some paint on it. BUT you can be DAMN sure, this truck will be a driver, not a show car, not a $30,000 paint job. It'll be safe and new. I'll sell my 2001 GMC when this one is done. So, that is me and I do my own work. I pride myself that I can do everything except build a carb and do fine paint work. I've rebuilt about everything else, many many times. Engines, rears, trans, body work, interior, wiring, structural, but damn if I can do the carb.... just do not know why. I've bought so many damn carb rebuild kits just to throw them away and buy a new one. This time I won't even try, I've already got the Barry Grant road demon in the shop for the crate motor. Yep, I'm getting lazy. The 8"ford rear is apart and new bearings etc are in. I've re-ratioed the rear, micrometered it out and blueprinted the teeth pattern for contact print, so I feel good that that is done. So, I'm an engineer that was a electrician in the US Submarine force, spent a total of 1356 days under water (no dummy, not all at once) longest time was 104 days. So, I'm also a scrounger as well.
That be something about me.
