Detroit Area HAMB Gathering Friday Nite in Lincoln Park

Fast Elvis and his running buddy Big Mike are coming to town to pick up his side glass that he shipped to my house and we thought we'd get together at the huge cruz in the Sears strip mall parking lot in Lincoln Park on Friday nite.

DirtyT has already called shotgun in Big Olds. (I've created a topless loving monster. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif Next thing you know, instead of finishing his chop, him and Kenny will be just cutting his top off and calling it a day!) Beatnik will be cruzin in his freshly completed roadster. We're swinging down Telegraph and picking up FatHack? and should be arriving at said cruz nite at 7pm. Since it will already be PACKED by this time, well probley park in the bank's parking area. It will be easier for everyone to find each other anyway.

From there we'll be heading to the 50's Micky D's on Telegraph to spend the rest of the evening bench racing in the parking lot. (this is our usual M.O. for Friday nites around here)

There is normally hundreds of cars in the Sears lot and Micky D's is always packed to capacity as well. Weather is suppose to be the most perfect it can get for a Michigan summer day/nite, mid 70's and plenty of sunshine.

If your coming from the north, east or Canada, take I75 south to the Southfield Road exit, turn right, it's on the right hand side a mile or 2 down. It's at the corner of Sounthfield and Dix in Lincoln Park. If anyone needs directions from another area, just PM me.

Not sure when old Tim takes his 'lunch break' (he works afternoons)...but he generally heads up there for a few if the weather is decent. The Tub runs good...I think the truck still needs the new tank installed. The T runs...but has one of those dead-ass paperweight gellcell batteries...and he's gonna swap the tunnel ram onto it real soon.

They had a big shelf full of old 3in1 kits and annuals right by the front door, I just drooled over them when I was 12-13.

Are they still around? I know they aren't in the same strip mall.

P&D started out down next to Massimino's Music, by Lafer Drugs on the corner of 13 and Groesbeck, then moved to that little strip mall with Quik-Pik across from Hanover Grove.

After that, they moved to the BIGGER strip mall where Peaches used to be, only at the opposite end of the row, at Masonic and Groesbeck.

A few years ago, they moved AGAIN...this time they're located in the strip mall that used to have Arnold Drugs and A&P on opposite ends...they're still there!

Spent a few years' worth of allowance at P&D as a kid...and still go there once in a while!

Thanks rudy, I hope you are right. I bought it site unseen with a little help from a HAMBer who was familiar with the car. I just hated to pass it up because it's built just the way I wanted and I couldn't build one for what I paid. The guy is even holding the check until I see the car before he cashes it in case I have a problem. I know it's a leap of faith but sometimes you just have to trust your instincts.

Rode to the big cruise-in at Sears in Beatnik's little hot rod roadster...actually quite a comfy little ride...that way cool interior is small and...ummm...COZY http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif...but it's surprisingly comfortable, too! Thing runs like a top and gathered lots of attention all night!

Denise's parents drove along in her Dad's way sweet Olds, too!

Saw Safariknut there, and as always...it was a genuine pleasure talking to Ray and hanging out with such a cool HAMB Brutha!! Glad you came, Dude!

Fast Elvis showed up...wildly talking about some idea to set up a Canadian Embassy at the HAMB Drags to allow for Diplomatic Immunity on Soverign Soil or something...said he'd have CASES of Canadian Beer to offer the U.S. as a Goodwill Gesture or something???

RocketJ2 and Campfire drifted in about when we were leaving to go to McDonalds for the second half of our Friday Night Cruise Party...cool to see him AT a HAMB gathering this year, finally!!!

DirtyT came along as well...we traded off shotgun seats (he rode to Sears in Big Olds with Denise), so he got to roll to McDonalds with Beatnik and I finally rode in Big Olds! That big ol' drop top is like riding in a sofa ...or love seat! It's cushy, the car rides like a dream, and it has a cool little rumble to it...I can easily see how Denise racks up so many miles in her car...it was BORN to Cruise!!!

McDonalds was packed, as usual...met dvlcoupe there (younger than I thought he'd be!) and he was sportin his Groovy 53 Chebby project...spent a few hours taking in the cars, sights and sounds before heading back to Denise's (where we all met up)!
