My stock radiator has been patched to many times for me to even worry about. It has developed another top tank leak. I need an aluminum radiator to fit in a 1953 ford customline. My flatty is way bored with a big cam etc. so she already runs really hot. Anyone know of a place that pre makes them? Everyone I talk to says at least 600 for a custom job.

Best place I know of is AFCO. I have one of their alum radiators in my 37 truck, no problems and keeps nice and cool. Look here:

I don't know who would have such an aluminum radiator in stock, but I bet it would be around $600, too.

I recommend AFCO also. I had them make a 2" chopped version for my '32 and it keeps my viper engine nice and cool. If I remember correctly, price was a little over $400 but cheaper than the $600 you've been quoted.

Hey chop. Afco part number 80164N. Jobber price is $426, retails for around $480. Made for 49+ ford cars. They usually custom make most of their radiators anyway, or at least made to order. Northern is another new aluminum company.

a friend picked up a speedy bill catalog and found the nearest size aluminum race car radiator to what he needed and bought it. cools a 455 buick in a 42-47 chevy pick-um-up truck. and there's not a lot of room in one of those for a radiator. can't remember what he paid, but it was way less than 600 bux. also can't remember if he uses a mechanical or electric fan.

hey,ichop.
check out a place called muscle motorsports,in north carolina.they are like a clearing house for last seasons parts and technology.
when i was up there 3 years ago,i picked up an aluminum fluidyne radiator for 90 or 95 bucks i believe it was.
yes ,it is used, but perfectly serviceable, and has an engine oil cooler built in to the end tank.
they had lots of sizes to choose from as well.
if any one is ever in the area, you GOTTA go by their place and look around.will make your drawers sticky!
the guy that owns or runs the place is into the e.c.t.a. events, especially at the maxton mile, where he runs an ex nascar t-bird.
sorry for the ramble-on.
try musclemotorparts.com
and
bidracer.com
did i mention that they got tons-o-shit there?

I bought a PRC aluminum radiator at Bowling Green from Northern Kentucky Street Rod Parts 877-258-4106 for $395.00. He had flathead radiators also. PRC is all welded, no epoxy.
