his was a pretty interesting story from The Sunday Wichita Eagle Newspaper
a couple of weeks ago. Was in a housing development around 119th st. South
and Maple. Anyhow a resident in the area saw a ball bouncing around kind of
strange like in the developments pond and when he went to investigate, it
was a flathead catfish who had obviously tried to swallow a child's
basketball which became stuck in its mouth. The fish was totally exhausted
from trying to dive but unable to because the ball would always bring him
back up to the surface. The resident tried numerous times to get the ball
out but was unsuccessful. He finally had his wife cut the ball in order to
deflate the ball and release the catfish.

Wow thats so awsome that Ernest Hemmingway is so concious about the life of fish, oh if you see him again tell him that his cords around his glasses are a nice touch. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

When I lived in Texas I new some duds that went to Lake Texoma to hand catch cat. They dove in the water and stuck there arm in under water caves and let the cat fish take it like bait. Said they had to try to get ahold of there guils before they bet down or the cat would tear them up (they had the scars to prove it). Anyway the fight was on and they were allways comeing home with 125# cats. Personaly I thought they were NUTS.

Yup, that's called Noodlin', Did that when I was younger in South Carolina. Had a buddy who lost 3 fingers to an alligator snapping turtle. Water moccassins are a consideration too. So are nails, broken bottles, and all the other crap people toss in the water. In Puget Sound, we went after octopus and caught them by hand back when I was in the NAVY. That can get real interesting too. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

By the way, I had someone send me these same pictures several months ago. You can't always believe the news.

My Dad did tell me he used to go turtling for snappers by going along the shores and reaching into the openings to pull the big snappers out by their tails. He said they always had their noses pointing toward the shoreline and it was safe to reach for them. I'd be damn if I'd ever do that. All I'd need would be a dyslexic turtle to come along.
