OK, here goes. My name is Mickey and I've never entered into one of these discussion boards before but I'm a 60 year old that can't get hotrodding out of my head so it's time.
I've been collecting parts and ideas for my 65 chevy stepside pro-street project for a while and it's a new year so it's time to start working.
Engine is almost done. It is a 1969 327 with 11:1 compression, radical cam, roller rockers, gear drive, iron 202 heads with lots of porting and polishing (circle track heads). I have several induction systems I could use; TPI systems, 70 z28 intake & carb, lots of aftermarket aluminum highrise intakes and carb, Offy inline dual quad with 600 holley carbs and Mr Gasket Street Scoop with air cleaners, Edelbrock Crossram with holley carbs. I'll probably use the crossram on the stepside since I ran one on my 10 second 327 powered 55 chevy a long while back and I really liked it.
I'm getting ready to narrow the rearend housing to accomodate my big Mickey T. tires and I want to convert the 6 lug rear to disk brakes and "I NEED HELP ". This project is being done "On The Cheap" so I can't afford to go out and buy one of those bazillion dollar conversion kits.
I found out that 79 - 85 cadillac el dorado rear calipers work well on conversions because they have cable actuated emergency brakes built right in (there may be others but I'm just starting my search) so that's one possibility. I know I can use front calipers and fabricate some brackets and then use a Line Lock for an e-brake but that's where you guys come in. I need info and suggestions on what type and year calipers might work best or might be easiest to install (I do like the idea of the mechanical e-brakes). The 6 lug Rotors are a mystery to me right now cause , as I said before, I'm just begining my search and have no idea what rotors would be best.
Please help with any suggestions or info you can share concerning my project.
I have a lot of time to think and since I love mechanical things, especially hotrods and off road, I'll be posting a lot of my thoughts and dreams concerning my truck. who knows, maybe some of them will be useful to somebody besides me.
I'll stop rambling for now. Looking forward to sharing some info with some of you fellow gear heads and dreamers.

Mickey

Someone's gonna do it, so I might as well state it nicely. "Pro-Street" is not what this forum is about. Got any pictures of your 55 to share?

Welcome aboard,
Kurt

I thought this was for hotrodders. Did I get the year wrong?
My project is a hotrod even thought I call it a pro-street cause of the narrowed rearend.
It is (or will be)a home built, low buck, no billit, old V8 powered truck.
What does a guy have to do to get someone to talk to him on these sites.
I went to google and typed in "mid 60's chevy pickup forum" and here I am. Should I remove the word Pro-street?
If you guys won't talk to me could you point me in the right direction (I realise I left myself wide open on that one)?

Sorry Kurt, I forgot to say thanks for the "Welcom Aboard"

I guess you actually did talk to me.

I can probably find a few pics of the 55 if I dig around for a while. Wish I still had it.

65 should be okay here since it's probably close enough to the 64 model. Yeah, I recommend keeping the term pro-street to a minimum here. I'm sure people here will help you out. Not many people look at this intro part of the forum, so you should post on the main forum.

Thanks,
Kurt

Thanks Kurt,
I guess I was thinking it's the same as a 64 but technically it is too new. well maybe I can hang in till I get another old car.
