Hey all, n00b here just checking in for the first time. Not really sure what to say here but gotta get the post count up somehow.

Anyways, not a traditional rodguy at all due to my upbringing (dad used to race imports) but am now pulling a lot of rodder ideas/aspects for my own build projects.

The fiance is now a freshly-turned gearhead as her dad used to wrench on brit rods and Porsches back in the day and with me practically forcing her to help, she really digs working alongside with me nowadays. We pick a new project car each year and are on our third one together.

I'm on my 12th VW at the moment and here are few pics of the past cars...

This was an '85 Golf. PA-built, really rare with insanely low miles when we found her:

The fiance kate:

Made a subwoofer box in a picnic basket:

Then we bought a 95 V6 last summer. This has been our biggest learning experience to date (myself included). We gutted and striped it, repainted it in a one-of Honda Tea Green color and added a PPG flat agent to the clear, swapped in three engines over the summer, custom seats, dash... pretty much everything. I wanted this to be a stripped saltflat racer look (which we plan to do this summer actually... 130 club here we come!)

Made my own fuel cell that has a 10" sub in it:

Made custom wires to match the old timey look:

The missus again:

Final paint and motorized y-pipe to a 3" side exit:

Anyways, thats me and my projects. I'm actually here to find Josh Shaw so he can help me patina my current project but then I got sucked into yet another automotive messageboard haha

Looking forward to grabbing some ideas from your side of the car pond and maybe I can give you all some of mine ;)

dig it. welcome.

VW's are a bit of a sore subject around here, but i love em dearly. I grew up in the DC area (Silver Spring MD)...I imagine things have changes since I moved away in 93 after high school.

Welcome from nearby Maryland suburbs. With your skills and obvious enthusiasm, we need to get you involved in a "true" traditional hot rod venture. Those VW's are plenty cool though, I must confess. Great to see the little lady as involved as she is. That kind of support is invaluable. Looks like your Dachshund? is getting in on the fun as well. I would enjoy seeing your stuff at a show or cruise event in the summer. Just not sure we'll wind up at the same places. Enjoy the H.A.M.B. and good luck on your projects especially the trip to Bonneville....Don.

The HAMB is dedicated to spreading the gospel of traditional hot rods and kustoms to hoodlums world wide. That’s right – TRADITIONAL

looks like you got a good partner in crime dude , you are gonna catch shit over your choice of rides .. but maybe if you hang around long enough you might ditch the bugs and go the traditional hot rod route!!

hahaha I figured I'd get shit over my choice of rides here. Same thing when hondas or imports invade my VW board ;)

No worries though, I hope you all can at least respect the fact that I've admired the rod scene for some time now, just haven't had the means or knowledge to jump in but plan to very soon.

Building cars is building cars in my mind ;)
