Hi,
Looking to fly one way and drive the other when we stop over in CA on the way home from the U.K. in Sept, what do you guys have in the way of el cheapo airlines ?? or ideas for like last min bookings as we will be on elcheapo industry tickets into L.A. and might end up a day earlier or later depending on space.

You could always put yourself in a box and have yourself FedExed.......... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Can't help much on the flights but always book mine online here www.opodo.co.uk (http://www.opodo.co.uk) had some pretty good deals in the past!
What are your plans while here in the UK?

Southwest airlines is cheap. But it is a lot chaeper to fly into Oakland and take the BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) across the bay to San Francisco. You can get a flight from LAX to Oakland on southwest for as low as $39.00

Here's their site: southwest dot com (http://www.southwest.com/)

Sweet, thats the kinda stuff I was looking for.
Plans and movements, very busy in the U.K. visiting my other halfs freinds and family, but will be in Luton/Dunstable for 4-5 days before we head to the US and home, will catch up with Marq I hope, I'm on very limited rations of "car time" after last years trip to aussie http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif but intend to squeeze a little in....... from memory will be in Luton around the weekend of the 4/5th Sept.
Is there anything on in the UK mid Aug/early Sept I should know about ??
By the looks CA will be a flight L.A./SFO and 3-4 day drive down 1/101 back with a side trip to Bako to catch all the Kiwi's etc there.

To get the super low $39 price you have to book two weeks in advance! You should figure it out soon and book the tickets if you want to do it on the cheap.

Thx OG,
That looks like the best bet, and booking 2 weeks out is no problem, I just need to get the big travel sorted so I can work on times and days.....then a car and some accomadation and we are sorted.

Southwest is definitely the best for a one-way. They do not fly into SFO, only Oakland (OAK), which is just across the bay. Like OGNC said, take the BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit = San Francisco bay area version of a subway train) to SFO. Or depending where in bay area you need to be then Oakland may be closer for what you need.

Are you buying a car and then shipping it out of LA? If you are renting a car, check with the rental agancies about the one-way and you might get a deal where they won;t charge you the full mileage for not dropping it off at same place as you rented from.
