I hope someone can answer this for me...Im clueless sorry.
Are the 40's hub on the outside of the drum or inside, and do the backing plates have an anchor adjustment for the shoes, or are they fixed?

1940 has hubs on the inside of drum (doesn't actually matter as others interchange) and has adjustable lower pivots.

The 40 ford hubs are on the inside of the drums. The anchors on the shoes are fixed,at the bottom, with eccentric adjusters. I had long linings put on both shoes, for more lining area, since they do not have a primary, and secondary, like the Bendix style. Glenn

This is true of original parts - lots of drums got changed out & the service replacement part was the later style hub on outside, so you can find either underneath an "original" '40 http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
