i just wanted to clear the air about the road agents and the hotrod rockabilly rumble. number one, the roadagents are a great bunch of guys and they worked their asses off to make sure everyone has a good time. number two, the rumble is an excellent show, displaying anything that can be thought up. the bands kept a nice "background" atmosphere while walking around, and the people watching at times, was eye-popping! sure, they didn't let my car in, ( i got in 2 years ago with the same car )and yes, i was so pissed off at first i was ready to leave, especially when i saw the other 3 cars i was with all get in. but i stayed for a good part of the day and really enjoyed myself looking at the rods, the people and listening to some great music. thanks road agents for a great time and a great show, i'll try it again next year! mike

Amen. We parked out in "losers lane" too, but we didn't get there until 8:45. I thought the gates opened at 9, but I had fun regardless. It's there show and they can let in who they want, when they want. Next year I'll make sure to be there extra early if I wanna get inside. They sure filled up quick!

i think there were lot's of cars parked in the field overnight from the friday night party so there wasn't much room left in the morning to start with. then when you take into account the room being saved for other clubs i.e. Rumblers, Road Rockets etc., the space starts dwindling now pretty quick, plus it's not that big of field for a show that is trying like crazy to grow more every year. the road agents are doing the best they can and we all appreciate it. nice to see you out there keith and sorry for "maiden voyage" curse, it's probably just as well you left it at home...i may have jinxed you!!! good luck with the truck, later, mike

Well when I left after midnight there weren't many cars left on the field. Also, I could be wrong but I don't think they blocked areas off for clubs like they did in the past because they got too much grief. Actually, it seemed like there were Rumbler stragglers that weren't with their club mates. I think that guys are just getting there earlier every year. Friday night when I asked I was told they were probably going to have to open the gates at 7 because the locals and fuzz were on their case over the commotion in the streets.

It's amazing that a half dozen guys can pull off this event and not have any really serious complaints afterwards.

yeah plmczy, i wasn't given an explanation, just a hand pointing to the side lot. jimv,leadsledmerc,av8paul and i got in the lot about 7:45 i think. we got in the line they directed us to and by the time we were at the entrance gate it was about 8:30. by then the field was pretty full and they were being very selective about what was getting in. they let jimv go in then turned me away and then they let in leadsledmerc and av8paul....as i said, when i seen that i was really pissed at first. but i cooled down and enjoyed the show. as for saving spots, i saw a few areas that were blocked with cones and i just assumed they were reserved for other club members, which is very understandable, it's nice to see the clubs support each other by attending their respective events. 2 years ago when i was there, matt hardly even looked at my car and waved me in, but i was there a little earlier that year, getting there about 7:15 if i remember right. there were cars that didn't get in that should have, but there just wasn't enough room, i am certain that was the main problem. again, congrats to the road agents for a great show, see you next year, later, mike

i got to the show at around 6:30am, and there were already about 50 cars in front of me, they started letting us in at around 7.

It was definetely overcrowded. They should consider some form of pre reg with a certain preset # of entries, like the TYRODS do. People would still bring cars and park in the lot outside, but at least there wouldn't be any confusion. But like Mike says, for a small group of guys, they do a helluva show with little to no problems. they have my support regardless.

I think one thing they should do is put the venders outside the gate & use the room inside for cars. Also when I talked to Matt he said that they want to keep it simple, no pre reg or anything, just get there & get in.Thats what makes the show so great & Thats why its not a dog & pony show.If you don't think its fair go to Syracuse.I would rather go to this show with 400 cars then to Worcester with 4000 cars.
I bet that after paying off the bands & the field that they don't even make that much money. Also every year they say"they're moving the show to a bigger place" & its not true, they want to have it this size.

Was a fantastic show! I have NEVER had so much fun at a car event!

We got there Friday afternoon, and hit the Party. Never have I been able to walk up to people and just start B.S.'in and not get attitude like you do at Syracuse (Just an example, so please don't read into it any furthur).

JimV. was that your roadster For Sale? the one with the Caddy light for a shift knob??

> bet that after paying off the bands & the field

And the cops, food, beer, etc.

I heard they ran out and upgraded their cash registers on the fly to help with the food/beer line because they care about everyone's experience during the show. They certainly don't have a take it or leave it attitude towards the attendees. I overheard one of the members telling another around 8:30 that he was really feeling bad about having to turn away his friends, but that there was nothing he could do about it. Let's face it, if they went to a field that held 1500 cars they'd have 5 times the headaches, stretch themselves too thin and be handing out flyers for their event like a certain other event that used to sell out a week after pre-registrations were sent out. As it is, Luke was telling me it takes them a solid week to get back on their feet after we've all left and had our good time. So I for one don't care which side of the fence I'm parked on as long as there's a show to enjoy I'll be there.

Wheels.

I was watching the gate for a while in the afternoon, just listening to the decision process, and wheels was one of the first things they spotted.

That could be it. I know Rich from upstate NY who has the Deuce with the looooong stainless steel headers was told he was out because he had big low profile wheels/tires.

Well I wouldn't go that far, it's just that I've seen it happen before back when there used to be a lot of rod runs in New England (before cruise nights killed them). Used to be you looked forward to going to the three day rod runs (not "Nationals") that were put on by local clubs. For example the Boston Area Roadsters put one on for about 20 years that was always well attended. But whenever they changed venues there was a dip in attendance for a year or two. Same thing with the Hew Hampshire SRA and the Down East Street Rods (who by the way have one of the few remaining club run multi-day rod runs in New England).

The perfect example was the NESRO run. For those of you too young to remember, the Northeast Street Rod Organization had a 30+ year run starting in '69. They moved around from Kingston - Sturbridge - Wallingford - Waterville Valley - Lake George - Vernon - Playboy Club - Moodus, etc. Every time they moved the attendance took a hit and in the end it just dwindled to nothing. Yesterday (the day after the Rumble) I attended the 35th reunion in Wallingford and a grand total of 31 people (or couples) signed in. Just proves all good things come to an end; or at least change a lot.

So enjoy the hell out of the Road Agents Rumble and ride the ride while it's at it's peak! Some day you'll be writing on a forum (or maybe talking into your speech recognition PDA http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif) telling someone about this awesome thing that used to go on in East Hartford.

Oh, and one last thought - you think the Road Agents have a great thing at the East Hartford Elks? Well find a member of the New England Street Rodders (Nick, Bob, Billy, Tiny (deceased), Wacky, Dough Boy (deceased)) and ask them where they had their dances at their rod run in the late 70's. Yep I've got a picture somewhere of a dozen guys and gals mooning in front of the stage where you were watching Johnny Lightning and Luke play this weekend.

Remember - We're here for a good time - not a long time!

Happy Truckin'

Dennis

Everyone gives you attitude Moldyolds because you're such a DORK! hehe
Maybe it's just that I'm older than you, and can spot people with attitudes a mile away and avoid them, but I didn't run into very many assholes this year at Syracuse. At least not as many as in the past.
The first 4 years at Rhinebeck I only met 1 real asshole. Now there seems to be more.
Fuck em. Find the cool people, and make fun of the assholes! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
