my buddy just bought a 55 packard..its 12 volt positive ground...we want to change it to negative ground, how do we do it????...thanks,mike

easy,just swap the terminals and re-polarize the generator.the only problem is some of your gauges might not work-george

well, we are goint to out an alternator on it, so it woulnt affect the lighting, starter, or coil?

Starter should be fine. Many gauges might be able to have the wires swapped, some might be OK, just depends on type of gauge/sender combo. Lights don't care about polarity, so you're OK there too.

It's pretty simple, really . ..

For complete info, try some of the British car sites -- a lot of brit cars into the 60s used Positive ground.

ALso some of the old truck sites, like www.stovebolt.com (http://www.stovebolt.com) -- GMC used to use Positive ground too.

I got Fiat gauges in my coupe, they are positive ground.
I just wired em opposite and they work fine.
