<font color="green">
I just got a call from Prettyman, he bought a 56 off another one of our friends, Dougy.
Anyway, it has a 200 R-4 in it that they say stays in third gear.
Any ideas as to what to do there?

<font color="green">Not sure of the wiring.
Dougy told Prettyman that he wired a toggle into it but we're not sure if it was to lock it in or unlock it, or both.
I haven't looked at it myself.
Either way, flipping the switch doesn't seem to change anything, it could be disconnected though.
How should it be wired up?

You say stuck in third.... does this mean the tranny only has 3rd gear full time?
Does it want to move the vehicle even while in park or neutral?
Or does it shift normally , but only to 3rd gear? Does the tranny have reverse?
There is nothing electronic with the shifts on the 200-4r or the 700 trannys. The 700/4L60 did go full electronic controls in 1993.... it is a 4L60E

Stuck in third gear could be a stuck shift valve , burned - stuck clutch pak where the frictions & steels are welded together.
Check the TV cable for proper operation. The 200-4r will not down shift correctly when the vehicle comes to a stop if the TV does not return to the minimum setting. A stuck TV valve , stuck/melted TV cable , broken TV cable at the carb can cause this.

<font color="green">Seems I was poorly informed.
Just got back from dinner with the guys and talked to Prettyman about the deal.
He meant that he drives around with it in third.
Drive to the rest of the world, as he should with an auto.
The concern is some sort of lockup/overdrive this thing has?
He says he has a toggle he flips and locks up the coverter, the problem is that it won't disengage, thus being stuck in OD.
I'm confused, edumacate me.

You have to wire it though a brake type switch. Go to a junk yard & get a brake switch off a car that had cruise control & wire it so that it cuts the power when brake is depressed. Works just opposite of a brake switch. DAVE

<font color="green">OKAY,
So, Once you flip the toggle, should you just be sending voltage that tells the lock-up to work or are we keeping it locked by continuing the voltage?
He says that it stays locked, even when he turns the toggle off.
