Have you ever used one?
Know anything about them?

I know that this question may be somewhat O/T but who is more traditional than Vic Edelbrock Sr? His company sells them... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

With todays unleade fuel, modern spark plug designs, high voltage ignition and head chamber designs......I am having a more difficult time reading plugs and getting everything right. I do get close but with a lot of trial and error. I thought at $129.95 ..........this might be a good tool for tuning. It is a toy.........or something useful?

Thanks in advance.......Deuce Roadster

The 2 and 3 wire sensors are like a switch that flips over at 14.7 A/F. A high performance engine will be richer than that. I'd say spend twice that and get a wide ratio A/F meter. I've got one with the Honda sensor. The newer ones use the cheaper Bosch, but for $300 you get digital A/F and can download the ratios as you go through the gears. The last part isn't a big deal unless you are EFI or really sharp on matching air bleeds to fuel curves. However with the ratio you can calculate the jets you need which will save you a bunch, particularly with multiple carbs.

I >JUST< saw an article on this w/in the past week on making your own for a lot cheaper than you can buy them. Thought I saved it to my favorites links, but can't find it. So did a quick google search for "air fuel ratio diy" & found this:

Autospeed Article 15 Jun 99 (http://www.autospeed.com.au/cms/A_0217/article.html?popularArticle)

DIY Wide-Band A/F (http://www.diy-wb.com)

Dummy's Guide for WB A/F (http://www.aces.edu/~gparmer/efi/temp/wb/guide.html)

There's loads more out there...

Modern fuels have all but eliminated the ability for the average joe to "read" spark plugs anymore...so an A/F monitor is probably money well spent if you've got anything slightly out of the ordinary for an induction system....

Thanks ..........

My 750 Holley is needing some more jet changes. I go leaner and leaner but the plugs show almost no changes http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

If I go richer........it's about the same. Got to go way fat to see the plugs fouled.

I may just buy one...........it's inexpensive and Summit has them in stock.
