View Full Version : Easily confused by my door pop instructions

Ok, I'm looking over my instructions for the door pop kit I bought. I'm trying to figure out-how many seperate 12V constant sources I'm going to need. Looking at the diagram there are one for each solenoid, and one feeding into to seperate parts of the control module, for a total of 4.
Now, can I have these four running off of 1 wire coming out of the wiring harness, or does it have to be one wire from the harness for each of the 4?
Can I run a wire directly off of the battery?
Electricity hates me.

I've never done door poppers before, but here's my input.
You should run the wire to a constant fused source of power. Meaning when you poke the test light on the fuse box, it should light when the car isnt running, and the key is off.
You should be able to run them all on the same hot lead, I wouldnt think they'd draw too much power. Do they all go at once, and draw alot of current? Or one at a time?
Did they give you an amp rating on the system?
If you make a new hot lead from the battery, make sure you fuse it too.
The only issues with one wire I can see is voltage drop or amperage draw.. but these arent power windows or anything like that, so I wouldnt think that would be the case.
Are there any relays, or circuit breakers with the kit? Anything needed should be included, and if they are, it will give you an idea of which route to take...
Hopefully I didnt add to the confusion! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I'll have to take a look at the kit for the amp rating. It does include the relays. I really wasn't sure about how many sources to use. But now that you mention it, it's only really using power when you activate it. I agree, I can't see it drawing too much. But then again, that's why I'm here begging for answers http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

What Brand is the kit. They might have a tech help line that you can call and help you out. I used SPAL brand kit for my buick and it was very straight forward and I consider my self an idiot when it comes to electrical.
Also if you can scan a copy of the instructions and post it I bet someone can guide you along.

I ran all mine off of one wire with no problems. I ran them all into one wite nut. And it came with an inline fuse if you got the autoloc kit
