hey all, gonna freshen up the top end of my 1960 389 this weekend, and decided to throw some new lifters and rods in since i'll have the heads off to do the swap.
can i pick up some standard gm lifters for this thing? NAPA wants 70 bucks for pontiac lifters. can i just have em sell me something else?
who works at a parts house? who has a hollander interchange?
oh, and how bout push rods?
thanks in advance guys!

Putting new lifters on an old cam has never worked for me. The wear pattern on the cam tends to wear out the new lifter and the old cam faster. Clean the old ones up real well and put them back in the exact same hole. The push rods should be good if not bent.
I am assuming you have hydraulic lifters and not solid. If they are solid definitely do not change them, you will never keep them adjusted correctly.

I read in an old Car Craft that Chevy and Pontiac lifters had the same height and diameter, but the oil band is not at the same height, so no, you can't switch them.
I hope that helps.
