A few of us older fatter slower guys here in NE Ohio are thinking of starting a car club. We build them ourselves and all go the lo-buck (Not Lobeck) route.

We are wondering what it takes to start a Car Club? I know that when we started a MC 10-15 years ago (now defunct) we had to run it past the large 1% Motorcycle Club in this area. Let's just say they want to know who their neighbors were!

Is this customary practice for Car Clubs too?

If so... is there any Cleveland, Ohio Choppers member here that I can get in contact with?

We are down two different names and how would we check to see if either name is currently used?

Do it how ever, when ever, and where ever you want...Just make sure the name is not already being used. thats the only thing that could cause a stink!!

Don't do it.
You hang out with your fat friends anyway, right?
You build cars, right?
You're fat and slow, your friends are likewise fat and slow, right?
Why put a sanctioning effort behind it?
Nothing changes, you just have rules and politics to rend assunder all your fat and slow friends.
Just let the status quo exist and y'all will be A-OK.

Look, if you wanna be like the Choppers, you're gonna hate it. Don't get me wrong, I know alot of them. They're all real cool but, it seems like a real pain in the ass. We have a club sort of. We do some stuff through the year. We all go to the Choppers Christmas party every year and they come to our BBQ's and breakfasts. They have a clubhouse (shop). Meetings all the time. Just too much work involved. Hell, have a name and just keep doing what your doing.

You, Larry and Moe have to be jumped in by Joe and Shemp first. Then we'll talk.

Never said we want to be like the Choppers...We wanted to throw a name out and see if it was being used and do what we already do. We were just wondering if it was cool to just to say hey we are a club now. Our "meetings" would be when all of us are at the same place at the same time, usually working on somebodys car in thier garage. Trading bullshit, parts and beers and riding to the local shows in a group. If we get our shit together throw a couple of BBQs to muster up some cash to rent the local track (a friend of ours) for a day of dragracing (North Coast HAMB drags?).

NAMBLA-CC http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif I'm pretty sure thats not being used! Personally I don't like the car club dig....politics are inevitable. You hang with who you hang with. No club for me. If someone doesn't want to help me because I am not in their club...well they're the ones that look silly and the ones I will pass by going at a top speed of 40 mph.

My advice,do it any way you and your friends want to.Just don't go overboard with rules and regulations. Avoid "control freeks" and enjoy . You'll find new friends and have fun with the old.We started our club in 1990 and I've been president since 1992 ('cause no one else wants to do it) and I'm still having a ball. Members will come and go and I don't knock myself out like I did when it was new,but it's still a lot of fun.
If you can get an NSRA Fellow Pages book, you can check for clubs in existance in your area.Obviously, some not all are in there.
