oh yeah, what the hell are these headlight rings made of anyway?? i thought they were just stainless but when i ran the grinder over it i struck GOLD! thought it was just the copper (over steel) from when they chromed the part, but it seems to be copper all the way through. hell, there was rust on the back side and it does weld, just not worth a shit. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

In all seriousness (I know the last post degenerated into KFC bucket jokes), be careful that you get a nice smooth curve along the top to the edge. Right now, you have a bit of a peak where the old bodywork ends. You don't want that new piece (blue tape) to be flat. A lot of reworked fenders suffer from this mistake, so try to get that curve in there.

How about the 55 Chevy style of eyelid....I drew this pic a long time ago of a 52 Chevy I owned.....

he wants the 55 treatment done on his 49 FLeetline so we're gonna make this one similar but different.

thanks for the concern but i am aware of the nead for compound curvature in the filler piece. it's just hard to pull that off with masking tape. thats what the bondo is for http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif...

Looks good Homie...!!

You could also try hitting it with a similar color primer
to get the 'full effect'....
makes it easier to like...'visualize'...man....

You can get the 55 eyebrows as rust repair pieces, but I dont know where.
I welded some in for a guy once that was buiding a '55.

thanks Jack. i was gonna spray some paint on it but i said to hell with it. maybe i still will, i have'nt touched it since the pics, i've been building a shed to store all my "junk" in.

good point on the eyebrows. i had a pair for a 56 in the shop. actualy one is welded on and the other is patiently waiting to become one with it's intended fender. got em from C.A.R.S. INC in Berkly Michigan.

...i'm wondering if Don has looked at this thread??? http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif????

Ok, I ve seen it.
Hmmmm, I questioning the curve downward. It strikes me as odd. Do you have a pic of one that's done this way?
My mind tells me that it should follow the fender staight out but maybe that's too obvious. Again, I'd have to see one done this way.
Here it is with some paint and one done straight.
Maybe somewhere in between?

Here's the straight version.

V8, that looks good. That shot shows me a gentle curve which doesn't look too bad. Perhaps Mike's version is a little too long causiing a more pronounced curve. It gives me the feeling that the car is looking at the ground. It would also seem that it would block some of the light.

I vote for the '55 fender extensions. They just look right, like they were designed for this application. I'd do them on both cars. I can't see you keeping both cars indefinitly and whichever you keep it will look right. Besides, Mike needs the practice. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I agree with Frank on this one. Besides, when yer done with this one I want you to be happy with it so you can sell the fleetliner to me http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Ok, that's 3 votes for the '55 extensions.
And you're right, once this one's done, one of 'em's gotta go.
Rich, what the hell you gonna do with ANOTHER car?!?

i agree it is too much down hill (i thought so before i even posted) but the flat across just SUCKS. something in between should work... if you want 55 fender extensions then get ahold of C.A.R.S. inc and order a pair. just drop ship em to me and i'll get on it... had to spend a couple days building my shed and a couple days helping my ole man on his MAJOR renovation/repair on my parents house. spent 12 hours there today and gotta go back after work tommarow to finish putting up a VERY heavy and VERY large wall (2x8 TREATED studs with 3/4" treated plywood, it's 22' long and going in a big hole in the ground). anyway i've been peckin away at the Chev when i get a few hours here and there. let me know if ya want the 55 parts and i'll hold off on that part a while.
