Ok.... took a few pictures today, so I figured I'd throw them on here. I"m pretty much starting the final assembely and a few other "small" things. When I last checked in, I had all the important stuff all put together and mocked up the way I want it to be.....

Ok, so from last time I got my motor pulled back out and taken apart for the final inspection and assembely. I decided to run the stock heads, and then the stock intake because I figured it'd be easier to tune and adjust everything with everything nice and stock.

I think I got my pulley problem figured out. I'm going to run some Non-offset waterpumps and one belt, seeing as I dont need my fan... My radiator sits too low for the mechanical fan... which reminds me, I got it mounted as well.

It's kind of hard to see in the picture, but I took a 2"x 2-1/2" piece of 1/4 plate, and welded it vertical, and then built a small gusset piece out of the same material, and welded it to the crossmember. I then took two pieces of 3/4" angle iron and welded them in place. My radiator then mounts off of those... and I plan to run some small rubber washers as some sort of cushon... but the whole thing seems sturdy enough... I could sit on the radiator without worry if I wanted to.

Then I got my clutch together... which seemed simple in the begining, but it proved to be a real "clusterfuck."

I planned to use my original clutch which was in good shape, and I got it in there and alligned fine, but it turned out the spline wasnt correct... I guess I just ASSumed it was right. After hunting through the local parts store's books, I saw that a 67 Mustang clutch would bolt to the flywheel fine, the clutch plate was the same size and the spline was correct. So then that when in there fine, but then the bearing didnt fit my clutch arm correctly... and a 57 ford bearing fit it, and my transmission correctly.... so once I got that in there, the motor and everything went back in the car.

After it was all said and done, and after waiting for all the parts, it took me three weeks to put the clutch in.

So for the Final Rundown... if you want to run a full synchro three speed ford tranny on your 8BA flathead, you need a Flathead Bellhousing and clutch arm and throwout bearing, and then the clutch assembely from a mid sixties ford.. 67 worked for me.

And as of right now It's up on my lift getting the brake lines... hopefully I'll have them done tonight, and then tomorow Mr. Bleed and I will mount the steering box, make the drag link and the tie rod.

Oh yeah, I got all my brakes and flex lines in... and it's all ready to go with the exception of REAR DRUMS. I need these bad.... so if anyone has any, I'm willing to drive a distance for them....

It's not a whole ton of progress, but at least the chassis and running gear is pretty much done. I found out my sister is having a big highschool graduation party with the whole family, extended family, friends and well wishers... and I want to have it done, or at least mostly done for that. July 24th. That way I can show everyone that told me that I'd never be able to build myself a hot rod, that I did it.

So now we'll see if I can get it done. It's crunch time. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I second that. My family and friends think I'm nuts. Of course they all seem to think I'm building the Boyd/OCC/Overhaulin/HorsePowerTV 90K billet nightmare. Thank God I have my wife and the HAMB here.

And nice progress! Good luck!

Thanks guys...

Are 40 drums the same as the later ones? I got a set of those that I would like to use on the front... I could just use my current front ones on the back then huh?

A question on the tranny, is it a 53 model too?

It's a mid to late sixties Ford three speed, but it bolts to a '51 bellhousing.
