This seems like a simple problem but for some reason, i'm not able to find an oem or aftermarket front shock that is long enough for my 31 on 32 rails roadster. I have a 4" superbell dropped axle with P&J lower shock mounts on the bottom of the perch , and f-1 upper shock mounts mounted the usual way on the frame. After putting the engine in, I'm still getting about 15 1/2 inches from mount to mount, which seems kinda long. It may settle a bit more when I add the radiator and grill shell but not much. That would put me need a shock that will extend to probably 18 inches or so?
Is this longer than the norm for a front shock?
The "hotrod" type front shock i'm seeing from speedway has a ride height on 13.5 and max length of 16.5, which would not be enough. I have the F1 mounts as low as possible on the frame.

If you had to,you could cut and weld the upper shock mounts to make them shorter.
OR look here: http://www.monroe.com/catalog_lookup/ocl_miscappinfo.asp
Should be able to find almost any combination of ends and sizes there.

I agree with Unkl on this. We are hot rodders, we make things fit that weren't supposed to fit, and we adapt things that were not disigned for our purpose. Measure, cut, weld, damn the OEM application. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Thanks, I sure don't have any problem cutting and welding stuff up, in fact I already cut them once to make the bolt holes line up horizontally, just never remembered seeing any that had to be shortened. , just looked at pics of the roadster in Mike Bishops book, looks like his lower mounts are higher up on the axle, about center of the perch, didnt really want too but looks like cutting the F-1 mounts down will be the easiest.

Dude I just did this on my Deuce - shortened the overall length of the bracket, and the eye to eye lenght was shortened by 10mm to allow the bracket to fit on the frame width.
Check out the pix man !!
