since i'm doing the V8 swap on my 54. i'm going to need to stop a lot better. no more white knuckles for me.
who has the best kit available? i don't need the master cyl just front disc kit. Speedway has a good one but they have to machine your spindle. i just want a straight forward kit.
thanks

Have you checked Stainless Steel Brakes. I think they make a bolt on kit for your car.

What master cylinder are you going to use?
ECI, you can buy just the basic kit with brkts or the ful thing with rotos and calipers.
I still dont understand why you guys cant make your 54s stop? My 4 wheel drums work VERY well.
I agree with 41ChevyTrucker's suggestion ECI, I've used their kits. They seem to be the best bang for the buck, they work well, and they stand behind their stuff.

I am going to go with the ECI set up on mine (MC & disks, etc). My '54 stops pretty good with stock drums up front and camaro rear end, but not good enough. I wanna get rid of the single MC and go with a double for safety... while doing that I figure it's not that much more work for the discs. Having driven a friends '49 with discs it is A LOT better... especially when going down the highway at about 90 MPH and traffic starts to come to a quick stop!
Not too hijack this post, but does anybody know if there's any issues with using the disc brake set up with Fatman dropped uprights & steering arms??? It seems like the inner tire/brake bracket/or caliper would come awfully close to the tie rod end...

do you have a V8 set up? do you also have a dual MC?
i had a 64 chevelle before with a single jar MC. i had to start slowing down about a block before i had to?

Thanks, when do you think you'll be installing all of this. I ask because I have a 53 Chevy and will be re-doing the brakes sometime next month also...

There's been a couple of posts on this recently which has been a big help to me. I've been eagerly following them cause I am probably ordering my kit in the next couple of weeks. Hillbilly Hotrodder suggested the ECI kit... he did his about 5 years ago and said he'd do it all over again... and that it was pretty simple taking only about 3 hrs (most of which was doing the plumbing). I asked him a bunch of questions about it. If you got any other questions about it, PM me and I got all his answers saved!
My 54 has the RIGHT dual MC. I cant tell you what it is cause you prob wont have the same combo of wheel cyl bore sizes as I do http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif Thats the key

Yeah mine too! Its all about radiusing the shoes to fit the drum they fit it, so you get 100% of thier surface on the drum..... I do this to all my drum brakes. -J.
