A friend is having me look at a local car for him and we have some questions about shipping:
-What should we expect to pay to ship a car from Bay Area CA to Dallas TX?
-Can anyone recommend a shipping company they've dealt with?
-Generally, does a car have to run and drive in order to have it shipped?
Thanks.

So Cal to Amarillo $700
Fedex
It's cheaper if it runs and stops.

Really Fedex does that? I would have never guessed. Looked on their site but seems all business-to-business orientated. Is this something you've used reliably before? Is there a particular service type frieght, LTL, multiwieght, etc. I should look for?
As much as I would like a roadtrip I'd rather sink the extra savings in the project.

I've got a shipping company moving me from Sacramento to Austin right now. On an open trailor, it cost me 700. If it doesn't run, it cost 200 more. Enclosed trailor was 1000. If you want the contact info, pm me.

The guy screwed me out of my deposit when he never picked up my Caddy to ship cross country. He was rude, arrogant, and threatened to have my Caddy in his driveway when I told him I was going to post of my experience with him and his company on several hot rod bulletin boards

A1 Auto Transport, shipped from Riverside, CA to Austin Tx, picked up at my house in CA and left at house in Austin, $550.00. Outside trailer, dirty as shit, but cheap and fully insured. They called me everyday to let me know where they were, took about 5 days. They are based out of NorCal, I think, maybe Watsonville....check them out

I used them to move the '55. They were as cheap as any other and I figured Fedex would get it right or at least make it right if they screwed it up.
