Sorry to here this. Back lash of the mega Wharehouse's and Big chain's. Gas station's too. 2 BP gas/conv. store's
(owned by the infamous Rothschild's) came town (pop.5000) and now, the last full service station went down. Progress? Only for a few. Good luck to this fellow.

I have been told that Wayne was given the oppurtunity to promote his business thru Cruisin Times magazine via add/write up, but would not return calls to do so. Maybe he lost the drive to do so. It sucks not to have any kool shops around.

Yeah.. pops told me about wayne closing the doors a couple weeks ago. I guess he was trying to sell it. Just wasn't turning enough profit. My pops was trying to help as much as he could too. It's just hard being in a small specialty business these days. Specially with hotrods... I mean they are trying to keep em off the road right?

I hate to hear news like this. There doesn't seem to be any good old speed shops left. I like to deal with someone I can see and talk to on a personal level, not some impersonal know-it-all 500 miles away that could give a damn about your unique situation. Just give me the part number, your credit card number, and address. We'll ship it if we have it, and if it doesn't fit or it's the wrong part, tough crap. Rant over.

I'll get flamed for this but Wayne could have help himself more.
Not using E-Bay, no web site, and having little or no
computer skills makes it very difficult these days. It is
almost a prerequisite.
I went to his shop for the first time last weekend, but
have seen him selling shirts at shows. Selling a shirt and
Mooneyes hat a day won't pay the rent.
Unfourtunatley this is exactly what happened to Pro Built
who used to be in Hurst. I miss stopping by there on a Sat.

Fat-BLk is right. Wayne said he had some people offer to help with a site before and they all fell through. Summit & Jegs have wiped out super shops and most other performance parts stores through volume-pricing and convenince. They also set the standard for every other aftermarket parts store. Everyone now is expected to have at a minimum a website. Most are expected to have online ordering. Even an Ebay store would have helped.
I don't blame wayne though. Through talking on the phone with him he just seems like a guy that does things the way there were done. My grandfather is the same way.
You can only have so many friends and they can only afford to buy so many parts. You need to advertise these days and everyone starts looking on the internet.

Well garsh Mr. Toolride, we stand corrected. We must have gotten you all wrong. We thought you were on here ranking on people and being a total ass when you were really just collecting for the Red Cross or some other humanitarian effort with your rapist's wit and stump sharp intellect.
I don't know Wayne and I'll bet he's a real nice guy but if someone who knows him and of him politely says that he might have made better business decisions, well then it is his right to say so. He may be right, he may be wrong. I bet only Wayne knows for sure.
Now most of the goofy fucks that come on here and insult people are usually from far away but luckily you live right close to a bunch of HAMBers. Why don't you go ahead and invite some over to your house this weekend for some hot roddin', beers, and Deliverance play. Trust me, you'll love it. It sounds right up your 'alley'.
And last but not least, Rashy is a buddy of mine and I assure you that his panties are not only unwadded but are probably a very high quality pair of Victoria's Secret thongs that your sloppy ass wouldn't have the good taste to purchase.

Toolride, you can tell you have not been on here before.
For what it is worth tradition, and in some ways it is sort of a dumb one, dictates that you post an intro and tell everyone about yourself before you get on here. Sometimes it gets kind of dumb seeing guys jump all over a newbie...but if you are going to come on here and start crap as the "Mighty Crusader" for Wayne, who is a big boy and could defend himself and would not probably care what is on here that much anyway, you should have done the intro.
I could care less who you are now, and I hope you leave to be honest with that attitude that you can come on here and do whatever you want. You are starting to sound like you think you are smarter and better than everyone else and your opinion is the only one that matters...is that the image you wanted to project?
What are you, one of his Blvd. Knight buddies or something?
I would never say anything bad about Wayne, I am bummed for him. My dad and I have known him for years. Others from the area are on here also. Do a intro if you are gonna talk crap or get lost.
When Wayne told me the news it stunk. I have bought stuff from him as needed. In fact I bought a carb from him I could have gotten cheaper someplace else.
When he told me he was not on the net, I tried to hook him up with Revhead, but it was too late. Revhead could have built him a web site. Wayne mentioned many people said they would help him with computer stuff but never came through...I tried to hook him up. You obviously know how to post on a forum, did you ever try to help him...all I see right now is some self rightous guy shooting off his mouth.
How do we know you ain't one of those guys that hung around the store waisting time?

Well, I find the intro stuff interesting most of the time.
I find it odd how some guys really get jumped on and others slip under the radar.
For example...Papasmurf got nailed big time.
Coolride had slipped in a bit...only a few have jumped on him...and this is the first time I ever have jumped in on the intro stuff...but if he is going to post like that we deserve to know what the deal is with the guy I think.
Tyler is a close friend...I personally would not have said what he said in the way he did...and I honestly do not think it was ment as a slam or to kick Wayne when he was down. Tyler is one of the most professional people I have ever known (except when Outlaw or Monkey are around http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif) and he is not one to start fights. I think it was ment more as an observation of what happend that brought out a troll.

? Why is this post starting to become a post for slaming. People have said some things on this post that should not have been mentioned. I know that first hand. It sucks that an independent shop owner will not be along any longer so instead of bashing someone for not doing an intro or blaming Wayne for the way he handled his business, those who are in the area buy from him while you can. One more time, who are you and what car is yours? Whats the problem, you think we are gonna jump you in real life or some stupid stuff like that?
Better yet, has Wayne seen any of this? Did you run and tell him yet? I am betting he would think it is all pretty stupid and would not give a shit and I have a hard time seeing him ever needing a defender.

coolride, if you would have just posted a few lines about who you are and what you are into, you could have come on and spoke your piece. The HAMB has a tradition of newbies doing a short intro so we know whom we are speaking to.
It is always easier to be a monday morning quarterback (why the shop did not succeed)but the bottom line is you will only keep getting shit (even if folks agree with you) until you do an intro.

It is just a sign of the times. I try to do business locally whenever possible but it still doesn't stop the inevitable. Just remember everytime you got to WalMart, Target, Home Depot or do mail order business with Jegs or Summit, you are putting the nail in the coffin of a mom and pop store. But on the other hand you just can't make it selling the same thing for more. You have to find a niche and hopefully a clientel that appreciates service.
I don't know the guy but I have been in his shoes a couple times and I can almost guarantee he is feeling relief at some level. When you finally make the decision to do it a burden is lifted. It is still a bummer to lose a speed shop. I imagine someday there will all have gone the way of the drive in movie.
