I am looking to put an automatic in my 54 Chevy with the stock 6 banger. The motor runs great so I would like to keep it.

My question is do I need an adapter plate to fit the tranny, either a t-350, t-400 or 700R4, to this motor. I know that it has been done a bunch of times and just wanted some input first hand. I am building the car for my wife and for the trip to Viva LV so we are putting all the comfort stuff into it.

Thanks Larry

it all depends on the year of the motor. the early 235's had a small bolt pattern forthe bell housing with 2 of the mounting bolts being behind the flywheel. the later motors had a rear mounting that is just like the small and big blocks.

if the blell housing starts at the side of the block you will need an adaptor plate. if the rear of the block flares out to the width of the lfywheel you can bolt it straight up.

hope this helps.
