Well got everything buttoned up except..I have a small coolant leak on the drivers side cyl head..it just weeps out from the head gasket onto the motor mount, only when its running..when you turn it off it stops..theres no water in the oil though..So I'm thinking maybe I torque the head bolts to 80 ftlbs and see what happens the book says 70,It can't hurt none.....

did you use that copper spray-a-gasket stuff when you put it together? every time i've used it i never had a problem later.recently i was doing a head gasket, got in a hurry, and figured it would hold without.it didn't http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Did anyone bet the first thing to go wrong would be a coolant leak?

Re-torque the heads and see if that clears it up.

if the book says 70, go 70

...........

got the metal sandwich head gaskets in there?

no sealant around the water passages?

if it doesn't go away by itself after a while you could use a little stop leak.

60's Style is right on the money here.

Overtorquing a standard bolt will lead to less clamping pressure due to you've exceeded the bolt's "modulus of elasticity."

I wasn't clear earlier. What I meant was re-torque the heads to the factory specs, not over-torque them.

Marcus, just keep driving, it'll stop.

Retorque the heads to 70 ft/lbs and that is all. Unless you want the motor to fail so you can whine about it.

That's a pretty technicle sounding term. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Did you put any permatex on the head bolt threads? Just thought I'd ask.
