Has anybody made a 383 out of an early 327 block? I have an early 327-67. I am wondering if I can even get the 400 crankin there due to the journal sizes on the mains. All help is appreciated. Neal if you read this don't worry I've got a replacement for you.

NO- it would have to be a'68 or'69 [large journal 327] to do the swap with a 350- 400 crankshaft.

You MIGHT be able to get a small journal crank from Lunati.

Why not make a 301?..If it's a small journal 327 you can put in a 283 crank, just like the zapper 302 in the z-28 camaro. Not a lot of torque but they really rev!...Just my $.02

If you have a pocket FULL of cash or a machine shop (which you do not or you would not be asking this) ....it can be done.
I have a friend who is BIG into 66 - 67 Novas. He has a machine shop. He has a 66 327, 4 speed, 12 bolt Nova and wanted a BIG engine ........that looked stock and the casting numbers matched a early Nova.
66 Nova 327 block (they have a weird clutch ball setup and oil filter deal......Nova only) and a 400 SBC crankshaft turned down to fit the early mains. He also turned the rod journals down so he could use early small journal rods (small diameter........gives clearance to the camshaft). Bored the block 30 thousands over with a deck plate. Bought a set of Speed Pros (I think). Port matched a correct set of casting numbers heads and a L79 intake. Balanced it internal (no 400 harmonic balancer to give away the deception).
It goes real good in a light Nova http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
Runs best from a roll........cannot get it to HOOK UP in 1st gear.. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
