would anyone happen to know the oil capacity of the 390 in my '62 bird and the tranny fluid capicty for the C6? was about to go out and do some juice swapping, but have no manual for it yet. Thanks

Almost forgot, what the recommended oil viscosity? the odo. reads 54,000-ish and its probably rolled over. 10w-40?

Probably 5 quarts of oil (10-W-40 is fine!) for the engine,
and maybe four quarts of trans fluid if you're changing a filter...or up to 10 or 12 if filling a dry tranny...just to give you a ballpark estimate.

Put four quarts of oil in and start the car. Let it run a minute, then shut it off and check the oil. It will surely need at least ONE more quart...maybe two...depending on your pan and it's capacity. Keep adding and checking till the dipstick reads "FULL" then note the amount for the next oil change.

Check your trans fluid with the engine up to temp and idling in "Park" on a level surface (make sure theres at least SOME fluid in the trans before you start it!). Add as needed till full.

Probably like Hack said, five quarts. Although for some reason my '66 352 needs six. All the engines listed in the '66 Ford/Mercury manual, excluding the 352 and 427, are five. I think Ford was fuckin with people. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
