Just curious - how many alliance members are there?

and........
what determines the designation below our names?

I am a newbie - but I see some people that are grenade inspectors and such

I am sure this is on an archived thread but nothing I search will bring up the answer -

Thanks in advance

I was a FNG until the 100th post and then I went to grenade inspector. As you can see I became an alliance member, great way to help a wonderful site grow!
Would be cool to know how many there are though.

Well, if you have a few days to kill, you could always scan the Members List and count for yourself!!

Well, I know how many there should be, roughly 35,000 or so...hehehe...

Well, if you want to start counting, I am an Alliance Member, even though it doesn't say so under my screen name.....

1000 is good, but we should have a lot more with a base of over 30,000. Come on, guys and gals, join the Alliance.

Wow, I was thinking conservatively around 5,000...that's kinda disappointing...I think I'll have to donate one to a friend when mine comes due...

so it is a super secret fraternity within the fraternal order of HAMB?
interesting.........
and all along I thought this group tried to set itself apart from other organizations.........
guess they are all the same....
there are a few guys who determine what is cool and the rest all follow

that is too bad

so the next question is........who are the guys that everyone follows?

I need to know so I will be able to get in lock step with all the other HAMB guys

(I know sarcasm does not come across well in typing - but the above is meant as a joke)

but I really am interested to know what the history is of the HAMB - is there a thread that tells how it got started and why and all that?

If it's a super secret society in a society, I'm doing a really shitty job of marketing it! :)

Here's a quick and dirty timeline:

1995
The Jalopy Journal was started on Geocities using Prodigy in the comfort of my dorm room at the University of Oklahoma. Plain text, no images...

1996
Tadpole (RIP), Junebug (Dirty Shirts), Christian (Primer), and Ryan started a newsgroup based around traditional hot rods.

1996.5
I continually refused to setup a message board after being asked time and time again by the fellas.

1997
I gave in and started a message board. I titled it "The Hokey Ass Message Board" as a joke... "Cuz there is no way this thing is viable medium."

1999
We joined forces with Hot Rod Deluxe and Kustoms by TSR.

2000
Kustoms by TSR bailed (Jason is still considered OG and a good pal) and we decided that we are control freaks and wanted the H.A.M.B. name all to ourselves...

2001
We moved the HAMB to our own servers and started footing the bill. All kinds of bad shit happened and I proved what a poor IT guy I am.

2002
Version 2.0. I hired the GERMAN to handle the servers.

2003
Version 3.0 and the introduction of Grimlok - best pal and visionary.

2004
Version 4.0

2005
Version 5.0 and the introduction of the SPS - a group of fellas volunteering to help me out - all of em heros...

2006
Version 6.0 and The Jalopy Journal is back from the dead... again, but this time for real... more later.

It needs to get big because vendors will really start to take note and offer more and better discounts and it cost a shitload of dough to run this gig fo sho man!

Let's see. My $50 investment showed 180 percent return in the first 2 weeks (not including the cool aluminum tag). That is better than any of my other investments are doing right now! Thanks Ryan!!
