I think I just about got my wiring sorted out except for at least one major wire

I have a points distributor (motor and wiring out of a 74 chevy) when I pulled the donor truck apart I didn't notice no ballast resistor and I inadvertantly snipped the wire from the distributor upon engine removal and I can't find where it goes from the distibutor to the main wiring harness for power to the distributor!

Can I just wire in a ballast resistor between the ignition post on the ignition switch to the distributor and call it done? or should I continue my quest looking for that little yellow wire?

its been raining here for days and cold out and being a wimp I'm leaning towards just getting a ballast resistor and being done with it

other than that I have most of the wiring sorted out where its going to be connected and to what

thanks

You can use a ballast resistor in place of the GM resistance wire. Just be sure it isn't TOO much resistance...I goofed that up on a Mopar before...thing ran like shit...two months later someone told me I used the wrong resistor...I thought there was only ONE!

(And I got all stupid...even wired a full throttle bypass for the damn resistor so it would run right when ya had ta pass someone or something!!!)

So...get the RIGHT one...avoid over-engineering it like I did!!

You can either do what you suggested or look in the large group of wiring tha ran across the firewall behind engine for the red wire that your short lead you cut-[ a resistor wire] [was at one time spliced into].
the resistor wire should be a single strand wire with a clothlike covering.

I'll continue the journey!
if I find the wire will it be ok to splice it back together or will that make it unuseable? I did cut it off about 4" from the coil

I said distributor in the earlier post but I meant the coil http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif
