i've seen advertised in Street Rodder mag. master cyl adapters for 37-54 chevys from ECI engineered components inc. the ad states that you can "adapt a 67-72 Mustang dual disc/drum master cyl to the stock pedal assembly". part # EC-440

has anybody ever used one of these before and is ECI a good Co. to do business with? i'm planning on running a remote fill master cyl. i don't want to keep picking up the carpet to pour brake fluid in and risk spilling it on the carpet. has anybody had problems with the remote fill cyl?

also here is a link: http://ecihotrodbrakes.com/master_cylinder_adapter_kits.html

thanks

p.s also does a 7" booster hit on speed bumps or drive ways when your riding 3-5" off the ground?

I've used that set up in two cars (41 and 47) and it worked great. The 47 was still a standard shift car so I had them send me an extra piece to mount the clutch pedal.
I have seen cars(Chevys)with the booster under the floor and it hung slightly below the frame rail, but I'm not sure of what kind of clearance it had above it.

I've got that exact adapter on my 54 with the Mustang master cylinder. It works great. No problems with it at all.

There is no reason why you should have to worry too much about servicing the fluid level. Brake fluid should stay inside of the system, so, unless you have a leak, there's no reason to be spilling fluid on anything.

Elrusto: how was it adapted? did you need to reuse any of the stock components? so this kit should mount where the stock MC went?

what would you guys recommend using? the booster versus a plain dual MC. i plan on having discs up front and drums in the back. it has a V8 swap with a 350 trans. i've had my share of white knuckle braking situations in the past with a single jar master cyl.

My car was originally a three speed. I converted it to an auto, so I had no need to adapt the clutch pedal stuff. I run the straight master cylinder without booster and feel no need to add a booster. It works great.

hillbilly: did you get it from ECI? are you running a booster also?

Yep, I ordered it straight from ECI. It was like 80 something bucks. I bought the master cylinder locally.

The bracket bolts in place of the original master cylinder. No holes to drill if I remember right. Basically installation was a slam dunk. It reuses the stock pedal, so it appears stock from inside the car.

It isn't anywhere near hanging down underneath the car. It's tucked up tight.

And there is ample room for you exhaust! Just dont break your Tap off in the pedal pivot http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif If you do, I have the cure http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I know this is hijacking a post but I use the adapter and it's great, But I'm a 3 pedal guy. So is there anybody who makes on for a clutch set-up? I can make one myself but it would be so much easier as I already have the 2 holer booster in the car.

$112 shipped...I just got mine this week http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

By the way, not to hijack the post but, where do you guys with 53-54 chevys run the exhaust for a V8 on a lowered car...up against the frame rail? it seems like it would be awful close to the master cylinder. What about the spare tire well in the trunk...can you run duals with it there..seems like it would be in the way.

I run a Turbo 200 transmission in mine because it's smaller than the typical Turbo 350. My exhaust runs between the master cylinder and transmission. I used Dodge turbo K-car exhaust heat shields hose clamped to the pipe by the master cylinder to make sure it doesn't get too hot.

In the rear, I use Harley Davidson fish tail pipes, one on each side. It is very close to the spare tire well, so I hard mounted the back of the exhaust. I know you're supposed to rubber mount all exhaust, but I have no noise or vibration from it.

My car is freakin hammered with no airbags, so I had to make real sure the exhaust was tucked firmly up under the car.

There was a post about this MC set up a couple weeks ago. I took a lot of good advice from Hillbilly and asked him a ton of questions about it. You were a great source of info on this Hillbilly!!! I will be ordering my ECI mc set up in the next couple of weeks once the $ comes in.

As far as the hijacked part of this post... I am running an early 327 with a TH350 tranny. My exhaust runs between the MC and tranny... seems to have plenty of room without heat being an issue. With the rear of my car having the Chassis Engineering rear spring kit, it makes it pretty tight to run exhaust up & over the rearend, past the gas tank, and the spare tire well. I decided to run my dual exhaust so it dumps out very discreetly in front of the rear wheel wells. I used the small angled chrome tips pointing down and they are tucked underneath the rocker between the frame rail and outer body.

It doesn't look muscle car-ish at all... I've tried attaching a pic here that you barely can see the shine of it at the very bottom of the image if you look close enough. Sorry for not having a better pic of it!

I have the Lokar nostalgia type of shifter. It's the swan neck one.

Kind of hard to see in this picture....

it looks good. only thing though do they have smaller shifter boots? something just to cover the base of it not that far up....thanks

i yanked the stock dash out of my car. complete from the firewall and door jambs. i put in a 51 Olds dash instead. i had to section it 3" in the middle and hand form the covers for the door jambs to hide the gap. i'll email you a pic. it just needs a couple of more hours of sanding then primer.
check this link out when i had started.
