Looking for some thoughts on how to fix my rear susp. Its a 50 Chevy Coupe with a 10 bolt chevy rear with 3" lowering blocks.

First problem is the upper shock mounting assem is rusting out. The shock mounts in a recess in the floor pan between the rear floor & the trunk, up under the rear deck. What have you guys done as a fix / alternative to this? Should I just run a piece of plate across the top, cut out the recess & then bring the shock up higher to mount it ?

Also, I now have no shock travel due to the lowering blocks. Once I repair the top mount, what would be the best way to determine the length of shock I need? Do I just measure the distance from the lower mount to the top mount with the car on the ground & then go for a shock with travel between that distance?

Thanks,

Steve

Score some good nitrogen charged shock's approx. 2-3" shorter than stock. But first the mounting area...a bit of square tubing welded between the frame rail's,would be a much better attachment point for the upper shock's.

I would re-do the shock mts also. I used Chassis Eng Brkts on my frame rails. I think they were $5 off a friend.

As for the shocks, measure the eye to eye at ride ht, add a couple inches for negative travel, then go compare to the books at the parts house, they list em by overall lenght and travel.
