I have a little time and have been thinking about customizing. Maybe removing the chrome buckets.

I could smooth the wells and seat the lights without buckets fairly easily. Any other ideas?

Customizing "rule"
If you're not making it better looking, don't fuck with it.
That's one of the better looking stock units from the era.
Only french it if you french the headlights and shave the rest of the car too.

Dr. J speaks the truth. You could adapt a variety of Packard, Chrysler, Buick or Chevy taillights so they look like they belonged there, but I don't think any of them would actually be an improvement over the stock lights. I wouldn't even french them, I think the bezel is a nice detail.
It ain't broke: don't fix it.

Thanks guys, I think I'lll go ahead and smooth out the wells and see how they look. I can always mount the bezels if they look better. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

If you go with smooth plexi and LEDs I think perhaps some billet wheels and hot pink heartbeat graphics would go nicely. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
French them babies.
55 Buick lights. Or Lee lenses for your current ones.

I think smooth it, and mount 53-54 Chevy Lee lenses deep in there.
