My truck is designated u-haul this year for pit bikes, E-Z ups, coolers, chairs, etc. It's fairly new and I'm planning on keeping it a few years, so I'm wondering about keeping salt damage to a minimum. One buddy sprays the crevices of his rig with WD40, another swears by PAM -- that spray-on fry pan stuff. A third says he parks his over a lawn sprinkler for 8 hours when he gets home. What are your tips? Thanks.

I had heard PAM does the trick but I was already on the salt when someone told me that. Way too late to buy and use anything. I would think PAM would be easier since it will come off with soap and water once you get home. Also, tape towels to your carpet/floor. It really help with cleanup of the interior.

DRD Laughed at me and said ,"I guess no one told you about the the towels ont he floor" I said no, and laughed myself. I was having WAY too much fun to worry about the carpet. It actually cleaned up fine when I got home. But I would recomend it http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I use LPS heavy duty rust inhibiter spray. It leaves kind of a waxy layer. Then I disassemble things when I get home and spend a few hours running water through everything. Whatch out for getting salty water into electronics, I've ruined a couple things that way.

Last year somebody mentioned "Salt Away". I got some and sprayed it on my undercarriage after I got home. The damm stuff actually eats the salt. I am going to prespray the 52 before I leave this year, that is supposed to be an even better application.

I really like the way the stuff works.

There's a lanolin apray that is used to protect ships, and it has cut down on maintanence of their hulls considerably. You have to get an agent to wash the stuff off as well, so you know its going to be good.
I can't find the info I have on it but will go to the hardware store where I found it and get more info on it, and post the details.
Maybe the kiwi's know about it. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Power washing disolves the salt and drives it into the nooks and cranies; especially the threads of all the fasteners. Of course if you don't plan on taking anything apart; no problem.
I park my truck over top of a soaker strip for a day after I get home.

www.salt-away.com (http://www.salt-away.com) has a web page about Bonneville. The West Marine website has several endorsements for Salt-Away from our sea-faring brothers. Sounds pretty effective.

Order it and get it now cuz I tried to get Salt Away after I got home and couldn't find it. The source I tried was out. Lots of stuff underneath Big Olds was already rusting in just the two weeks it took me to get home. Sure wish I could have driven thru a couple of rain storms, but not one could be found from UT to MO to MI http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
