We have this SW temperatue gage that we want to use. It has 4 terminals. One is obviously a ground. What are the other 3?
Anyone know?

I'm thinkin the top post is for the light and so is the ground. And I think the other two are for the sending unit.
Just a guess.

Well.. I haven't messed around with a SW gage that much. I have, however, had a lot to do with gages of other makes. Usually there is a power, a ground and a sender terminal. With a plug-in light bulb with 2 wires (power and ground).
This one most likely has an internal bulb.. So I was thinking that one was power, one was ground, one was the sender wire and the last would be the illumination power... but which one is which??

ground, +12vdc, light, and the last one goes to the sender. David

I don't know.

this is all i found. like cadlights said, the top one is most likely the light. i would hesitate to just hook it up and see what happens, i think i'd check the terminals with an ohm meter first. or maybe find an SW tech line to call. David

I have not seen a SW with a internal light. Look around the edges of the chrome trim ring and see if the light gets in that way........I believe it does.
The correct sender will be needed too.

I'd Run a ground wire and touch a hot wire to the top post and see if ya get a light. That at least eliminates one post.
Then you'd just have to determine which of the other two is the ignition hot and which is the sender post.
SW has virtually NO tech info for the older gauges. They have been bought out and moved so many times it has been lost or the smart guys retired. As for Mexico, must be a consumer help line, you can still reach a US office, not that it does any good http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I messed around with it yesterday: I didn't get a light to come on. It may be externally lit because it has 2 slots on the top where light could pass into the lens. I couldn't make sence of anything on it.
I kinda figured that SW would be of no help.
Is anyone here using this gage? Maybe they could peer under that dash and see what goes where??
I'll even give you a smilly face!! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

The new ones I have looked at have only 3 terminals.
This one is older and has 4....
Maybe I'll make him use something else..

Bulbs burn out.
Unless it's a "disposeable" guage, a guage is going to have a bulb socket in the back of the housing or it doesn't have internal lighting.

i remembered i have an old gauge set from an international loadstar 1700 sitting on the shelf that i plan to use for my roadster project. sure enough, it's got the same gauge. there are a few wires hanging off of it, the top terminal has a wire that splices off to the fuel level gauge, and the oil pressure gauge, the other two wires are cut off and don't tell me anything.
the trick would be to find a wiring diagram for a loadstar, that would tell us all we need to know. David
