a buddy told me that this is a 35 plymouth axle? i would rather have a 40 ford, but i think i can make it work...

does anyone know what kind of axle it is? and also does anyone know what kind of brakes or spindles will bolt up to it? the brakes that are there will work, but i was looking to put a bendix setup on it. http://66.221.37.206/pictures/greasemonk/MVC084F.jpg

Yes, that is a '35 Plymouth axle with the spring pads cut off.

i just cut the spring pads off and was going to run this set up http://www.speedwaymotors.com/eCCStoreFront/smi/product_images/medium/91635010.jpg with from speedway (http://www.speedwaymotors.com/xq/asp/strBase_List./hilt./source.2192/base_no.91635010/str_base_no.91632501%2C91632504%2C91633005%2C91635 000%2C91635001%2C91635009%2C91635010%2C91635011%2C 91635012%2C91635015%2C91635023%2C91635050%2C916390 01%2C91639031%2C91639105%2C91639108%2C91639501%2C9 1643%2C916433%2C91643510%2C/header_title./page_name.prod%5Flist%5Fdisplay%2Easp/search_type.L1%7E310/search_option./deptsearch./deptSearch_id./dept_id./dept_id_p./dept_name./dept_name_p./ShowImages.yes/sq.60/cont.1/intPgNo.4/redirect./qx/product.htm) http://www.speedwaymotors.com/xq/asp/strBase_List./hilt./source.2192/base_no.91635010/str_base_no.91632501%2C91632504%2C91633005%2C91635 000%2C91635001%2C91635009%2C91635010%2C91635011%2C 91635012%2C91635015%2C91635023%2C91635050%2C916390 01%2C91639031%2C91639105%2C91639108%2C91639501%2C9 1643%2C916433%2C91643510%2C/header_title./page_name.prod%5Flist%5Fdisplay%2Easp/search_type.L1%7E310/search_option./deptsearch./deptSearch_id./dept_id./dept_id_p./dept_name./dept_name_p./ShowImages.yes/sq.60/cont.1/intPgNo.4/redirect./qx/product.htm

Whenever see one of those axles I think back to 1968 when a buddy had a '32 Ford three window, it must have had one of the first clip swaps, the deuce frame was cut off at the firewall and the front half of a '35 Plymouth welded on. Looked awful, two owners later it was rolled into a ball and lost forever.

do you mean that ford spindles will fit onto this axle? the king pins look different sizes... i haven't actually measured them but i would be stoked to hear that they fit...if they do, do you know if the camber... and all that other stuff is also a match?

The Ford king pins are larger, you can make new bushings for the ford spindles to use the Plymounth king pins, or bore the Plymouth axle for Ford king pins. It makes the king pin boss a bit thin in my opinion, but it has been done.

46 Dodge pickup steering arms will fit by drilling out the bottom holes on the spindle to 1/2", and lets you use modern tie rod ends, and cowl steering

The axle will have to be bent to get the correct king pin inclination, there is a degree or two differency.

On mine, I adapted S10 rotors and brakes to it, a plate caliper adapter, and a sleeve on the spindle for the inner bearing and seal.

I'm told the old straght axle van spindles will fit with new king pin bushings, but I have never tried it.

56 Plymounth brakes will fit the stock spindles, and are a bit bigger. I think you have to use the stock hubs with the later drums.

hey thanks for all the info, especiallyt the 56 plymouth tip, that may be the direction i go since the axle and spindles are already together... do you happen to know if the 56 brakes take any work, or are they mostly bolt on... and if so what bearings, ect... it would take? i assume they also would need the 56 backing plates?

You use the 56 backing plates and drums, stock hubs, so the bearing don't change.
