ive heard from a few people over the last couple years about using a master cylinder from a geo metro in their cars. im guessing that its pretty small and thats the reason why. do i have to do anything to use this in my 61 wagon or can i just bolt it in and hook up the lines?

anyone????

well you will havea volume capacity problem the metro has little disc and i think 7 inch back drums no way enough volume to handle a full size brake sysytem. do a search on here there was just a big right up about what works correctly

They are good for most older drum brake systems, the volume a bit more than a fruit jar 60s small Ford piece. They might work well with a small caliper and 5/8 bore wheel cyls on the rear.

They're dinky, and threaded for Metric fittings. Might work, but a Vega or Pinto one might be a better choice for a standard disc/drum system.

i had one on my Ranger. being that it was on 20" wheels there was no room for the ABS. the geo metro unit worked great. no complaints here.

I have seen them used on mid 60s Falcons, Comets and Mustangs, many complain of a soft pedal, though - perhaps something to do with the push rod being too short?

OK ...in a hydraulic system thats properly bled..it really can't have a "soft pedal" its either got air in it or the firewall is flexing as you push the pedal or maybe the rubber lines are getting soft and expanding as they are pressurized...but any master cylinder in good working condition should give a hard pedal ....its simple physics.

And you cant just throw ANY master cylinder on your car and expect it to work!!!!! Factory systems use complimentary sizes os MC bore and Wheel Cyl bores. For example, a full sice 62 Chevy had 1 3/16th front wheel cylinders and 1" Rear wheel cylinders. The master cylinder was 1" or 7/8ths if you had the metallic brake linings option. My book is not new enough for GEO to be in it, but your baseline should be similar to stock to have the same type of brakes.

I haven't used them personally, but Rad Rides by Troy has sucessfully used them on 8 different cars. They run them without a proportioning valve. I asked Moose if they were still using them, he said the weren't because they are using C4 corvette masters now. He said he didn't like the way the pedal felt on the Geo pedal, it was too stiff.

This may or may not help. They have used them on mid size cars and full size cars with all drum or disk drum.

Just do a Google seach for Rad Rides cars and read the tech articles.
