Today I read that Shawn had passed away and that he had been layed to rest on the 29th of June. I read all the other posts from well wishers and people auctioning stuff off to help out.
I have been on the HAMB since 2001 and even though I have only 167 posts I still log on every single day and read.
I am still a novice when it comes to building Rods thats why I mainly read. This is not only my favorite place on the web but my 11 year old son loves it too.
I've learned all kinds of things about Rods here but this week I learned something way more valuable than car stuff, I learned that The HAMB is not just a bunch of car addicts talking cars and crap... WE are the true meaning of FRIENDS.
Today I've realized that I am among a bunch of really compassionate people and I am Damn proud of it!
Thanks to Ryan and everyone else that makes this place what it is... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

This is an amazing place. People who don't know each other, but share a common intrest all come together and help. I've never seen something like this. I hope it will stay like this. I think the fact the the "hazeing" happens kinda keeps it like it is. Granted it can be a little too much. But it does weed people out.

Gabriel, Thank you for starting this thread, I agree with everything you said, I am very happy to have found this group.
Texasduece, you hit the nail on the head.
I, too, enjoy this place, the knowledge, the friendliness, and the compassion shown for others in need.
Small wonder it is the fastest growing site on the 'net.

<font color="green">This is truly the best the internet has to offer!
I have spent the last two evenings with people I consider very good friends.
People I most likely would not have met without the HAMB.
Because of the HAMB, I have made friends all over the country and have met alot of them face to face during my business travels.
I have to tell you, nothing beats the hell out of staring at the idiot box in another freakin hotel room like hanging out with some like minded people, looking at cars, working on cars, bowling, listening to BUBBA LOVE knock 'em out.
Well you get the idea.
This whole ordeal everyone in Tulsa is going through has certainly reminded all of us just how powerful the HAMB is.

I have made SOOOOOO many close friends on the HAMB. Hell even people from my own town. Rashy is right, having this place really makes a trip from home THAT MUCH BETTER! It seems like every car show I have to go to, I can always hang out with a friend while I'm away from home. Everyone here knows the protocal: We help when you need help, we make fun when you need a laugh, etc, etc. This community does EXACTLY what friends do for each other everyday.
I loved this place before Shawn passed away, but now I'm connected to it like I wasn't before. The things we've done to help one another is tremendous and everyone's outpouring generosity is incredible.
To my HAMB family, Thank You.

This might sound cheesy (as if all the others didn't, right??), but I've only been on the board a short time and already I can tell what a great place it is and what a good bunch of people are on it...
I never knew Shawn Howard, I'm pretty far away from Tulsa, but reading everyone's posts in the section about it has brought the whole thing close to home for me... I bought a DeadTown shirt and added a few shekels just for the cause... I don't go to church that much, but I happened to go this AM, and I found myself praying for Shawn and his family...
Said in a few words... this board is amazing! I'm too am DAMN GLAD to be a HAMBer!!

You're absolutely right. I met a couple of people this weekend at a show who I'll know for the rest of my rodding life thanks to the HAMB.
Thanks Ryan and all the rest of you HAMBers
